Accepted transfers for class of 2017!!

Hi everyone!! Like many others, I was recently accepted as a transfer student for fall of 2015, SDSU Class of 2017! I wanted to get some insight/discussion going about other transfers, student/social life, what it’s like to come in as a transfer, how we should start making connections both socially and professionally, etc. I’m hoping to basically start a group compiled of accepted transfer students (who plan on attending SDSU) to share and acquire knowledge about the whole process!

I am personally wondering what the deal is if you want to change majors… I was just accepted within the major Journalism for Advertising but would really like to switch in Social Work. What is the process for that like, and do I have a fair chance at successfully switching (given that the majors aren’t totally different)? I’m curious about general questions such as those. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

-Zoë

Congrats Zoe! I was accepted as an Accounting major. I have never joined clubs before but I think I’m going to be joining several when I get to State. I know that’s whats going to give me the most connections and contacts.

From the acceptance letter, it says you can’t switch majors. But I’m only assuming it means that temporarily. I’ve heard of several people switching majors after they got accepted but I’m not sure on what they had to do to do that.

Anyways, congrats again!

Hey Zoe, congrats! I was accepted as an International Business major from out of state. I think @Shewwane is right, clubs and organizations are going to be relied heavily upon making connections and networking opportunities and such.

I think once you complete your intent to enroll and the steps involved, perhaps talking to your major’s adviser would be helpful in getting to switch your major. I think it also depends on how impacted the major is. Popular ones are going to fill up asap so I would recommend talking to someone after you complete everything as soon as you can.

Have you looked into housing? There are lots of apartments nearby the campus but some of them are so expensive! /:slight_smile:

congratulations. it says in the email that you cant switch majors, but i think there are some exceptions. have you guys done the verification worksheet and paid the deposit yet? i am an engineering major

@sallyyouna I already paid the Intent to Enroll deposit, which I’m glad I did because a lot more options popped up on the WebPortal after I did that. I haven’t done the verification worksheet. I actually haven’t even heard of that before you mentioned it, lol. What is it exactly?

I haven’t done anything yet. I’m waiting on a couple more admission decisions from other universities.

@shewwane verification work sheet applies if you filed taxes in 2014 and how much money you earned in 2014. if you log in to your aidlink it is going to be (if required) on the left hand side

@yfli1722 i have not paid the deposit either, waiting for UCLA,UCSD, and UCI. they are taking forever ~X(

i also submitted my academic transcript. it only took them 24 hours to update my portal from pending to received

@sallyyouna The wait is long for UCs, aren’t they?! :frowning: I applied to UCI as well, good luck to you!

Hello everyone!

I got the good news last week!

Business-General
GPA- 3.66
Local AS-T from City College

I had to wait on some paperwork for my Intent to Enroll to be taken care of and I just accepted admission today. So what’s the next step after this?

@ieatsushi Does your intent to enroll section have the green check mark? I have all my GI Bill benefits on file but it still shows that I need to pay. I was told that once they process the GI Bill certification that the intent to enroll fee would be waived. What else needs to be done? SO confused LOL.

For all others on this thread, I also heard the good news last week on 3/30

Communication
GPA: 3.67
Local AA-T from Mesa College

Congrats to everyone else!

@ieatsushi Nevermind…LOL. I figured it out. I had to click on “intent to enroll” and accept the admission. I feel like dumby. Haha.

Accepted on the 30th as well for Anthropology. I really regret going to 4 colleges since now I have to contact all 4 of them for my transcripts. They are notorious for sending them out late. =(

If you are confused on what to do next just check out this link

Sorry for the late reply, @raychill89‌ I was out looking for SDSU shirts.
I guess I would have been able to accept admission earlier but I was confused because the date still said, “May 01” due date and so I called this morning and they asked if I clicked further for the intent to enroll to accept admissions. I totally had a dumb moment, too.

But, I called later to ask what I needed to do and they said that I have to bring in the Certificate of Eligibility (which I changed to SDSU on VONAPP today) and then go back again to see the VA office on campus after registration. But I found this page for transfer students:

We just missed the priority deadline for FAFSA and I’m going to submit the late appeal for CAL Grant. So much to do!

I didn’t see your link while I was typing @Impatient1‌, thank you though! I went to 3 different schools (unless you count Miramar and Mesa as well but, they are the same district and I only need to send one transcript for those schools).

I guess I don’t qualify for CAL grant seeing that it’s for recent HS graduates. Whoops :-??

Anyone going to take their WPA in June?

I am going to try and take the WPA as soon as possible. I am planning to take the GRE in June so I guess I have to add another thing to my list haha. I was told by my girlfriend that we should attend the workshops for the WPA as it will help us get at least an 8 and avoid taking any extra classes. I guess we won’t know for sure if the workshops help until we get the results.

Definitely a good amount of things to do.

I was looking at SDSU gear too! I’m so excited!

I was told to do the same after orientation/registration to go back to the VA office. There is additional paperwork that needs to be done I guess.

About the Cal Grant: My husband graduated from SDSU and told me that he used both FAFSA and the Cal Grant. Then his last semester he had to pay back like $1,600 because I guess the Cal Grant covers tuition and since he already had tuition covered by the GI Bill, he wasn’t in need of the Cal Grant. Apparently, it MUST be used for tuition, so I would double check on that.

Just filed for FAFSA. Hopefully even though it was submitted today after the deadline for priority, I will still get something. It wasn’t really in our control that we didn’t find out about our admittances until after the deadline. :frowning: @ieatsushi

@Impatient1‌ I want to brush up on my writing/reading which is why I’m waiting until June. We have until the end of the Fall semester as transfers but, I don’t want to sit around on it. So many, many things to do! I’ve been setting my reminders on my calendar to track all the deadlines!

@raychill89‌ I’m sure we’ll get something. We just won’t know as early as the priority submissions, I’m sure. Is your husband an officer?
