Accepted transfers for class of 2017!!

BTW, did you guys get your hard-copy of your acceptance letters via snail mail yet?

we get acceptance letters in the mail?? I thought they just sent it to us through the webportal. From there I just printed it out.

Do they not do that anymore? @Impatient1‌

@ieatsushi Yes he is. Just commissioned last year! And I hope so. We are living on one income so that I can focus 100% of my efforts on school. What about yours? And I haven’t received anything in snail mail. I heard we get a welcome packet with information and bumper sticker and such. Been checking every day but I haven’t received anything yet. I did print out my official letter of admittance from the “messages” section on the website and it’s now on my refrigerator! :stuck_out_tongue:

@raychill89‌ My husband is enlisted, working on his degree online and paying for it with tuition assistance while he’s active duty. My husband printed my letter on cardstock at his work when I sent it to him, so silly, haha! He said I’m going to be his sugar mama.

That is so cute that he did that with your letter! Awww  @ieatsushi

So the first hurdle was getting accepted. Now I am anxious for May 14th so we can log in and register for our orientation/registration day! I want the earliest date. I have heard that the latest date has less availability, course wise. I have a super impacted major so I am worried about that haha. Going to do my WPA in June as well.

I have no idea if they do. I hope I’m wrong and we get bumper stickers and such like @raychill89‌ said.

I checked the class sizes for my major and I’m super happy that there’s hardly anyone in the anthropology classes. SCORE! haha

@impatient1 Where can we find this information? I am very curious about my major. :stuck_out_tongue:

I just selected classes going on right now during the spring. It should give you a feel for how popular certain classes are by the number of seats still left.

Hello guys!

  1. SDSU register amount is a lot more than what my friends are paying to other schools. Is this because it includes orientation, etc.??
  2. The acceptance letters for cal states (so far, not heard from UCs) is weird. People are getting accepted somewhere, yet denied others. My friend with a 3.88 got denied from SDSU…
  3. Important! DOES anyone know if SDSU is transfer “friendly” cause my teacher for bio is concerned they aren’t. She is making me reconsider going there. It is weird they didn’t update the assist.org since 2009…??

@Alexcider‌ 1) Are you referring to the “Intent to Enroll” fee? It’s just a deposit that will eventually be applied towards class registration. I believe the purpose of them having one is because the school’s number of applicants are so high they need guarantees that admitted students will be attending so that they can admit students who are lowest priority, wait-listed, and appeal applicants.
2) There are other factors that we may not know why some are getting denied and why others are getting in. I am sure there is an additional selection process that they don’t outright tell students. Did your friend have an ADT (associates degree for transfer)?
3) Are you a local college student? The best person to speak with would be a college advisor from your school. But, if you want the highest chances you should apply with one, an ADT from one of the local community colleges and two, a competitive GPA (3.5 or above). It may still not be enough for the simple fact that there are not enough seats because it’s an impacted program. I would say to at least try if this is the school that you want to go to but, have a back-up plan and apply to other colleges. Giving yourself a small chance is better than no chance at all.

@Impatient1‌ I believe the class schedules reflect current class sizes and it’s up-to-date. The spaces available seem like there are a lot of openings but that’s because there are students who have dropped or withdrawn from the courses. SDCCD’s class schedule works the same way. If you looked at my math class, you’d see that there are “seats available” but, it’s from students dropping/withdrawing. At the beginning, the class was full and wait-listed and my teacher took in additional students but now it says there are 5 available.

That’s true. I think I was just too excited haha.

Right? I am the same. I practically spent half the day yesterday combing through SDSU’s website. @impatient1

Is anyone starting to become nervous about the transition? The excitement is still obviously there for me because I’ve waited forever for this…but I’ve been thinking a lot about it and after 3 years of community college, I feel as though going to a 4-year institution is going to be a shock…especially going all out and taking 15 unit semesters at the upper division level. Eek. I hope I can hack it. @impatient1 @ieatsushi

@raychill89‌ You’ll be good! You’ve come this far! I am trying to get over the whole excitement phase but it really hasn’t subsided. I’ve been working at this for a looong time and it seems surreal that I’m at this point. I’m bummed I didn’t finish earlier as I’m one of the “older” students (30 is not old BTW) and feel out of place age-wise, but better late than never!

@ieatsushi Girl, I understand the age thing. I’m 26! Definitely going to feel a bit out of place at the undergrad level which is also a nerve-racking factor haha… but you’re totally right. It’s better late than never! And 30 is definitely not old!

@raychill89‌ I know exactly what you mean. It’s going to be really different, but I am with @ieatsushi in the rational that we’ll make it! I’m just trying not to miss any of the requirements first haha

Just some advice, try to figure out exactly what classes you’ll NEED all the way through graduation, and see how often they are offered. Especially major electives. I missed out on one class, and nearly missed out on another because a lot of UD major classes (at least in my major) are only offered every two years. The next time the class I missed will be offered is the fall after I graduate. Figure out what will be offered every semester, once a year, once every two, etc., and plan around the difficult ones.

@alexisNS‌ How would we go about doing that? That’s really helpful to know, thank you!
