Has anybody received finaid yet? Details would be appreciated, but if you wish not to share its all good.

i've received my financial aid packet informing me that i do not qualify for financial aid.

Just got my award packet today. Didn't get much. Just got $12000 in scholarship and grant. THey are expecting 4000 from parents and 2600 from summer savings. ARghhhhh how can I possibly get 2600 for summer savings.

wow.. kkl230 i'm sorry to hear that.....

Doesn't it cost around 40+ thousand per year to attend?

yeah gee, kkl230, soo sorry to hear you only got $12,000. What a shame.

How can you possibly get $2600??? Solution arise! Work!!!

gomestar how much does your parents make?

well its okay, because i will be attending the state contract schools. I'm a NY resident so it's cheaper. I'm also a Gates Scholar, so I'll definitely be getting some scholarship money from there too.

i'd think work would be the solution, but here's the problem. I live in NYC. COrnell is in Ithaca, are there any employers out there that would hire someone to only work for 1-2 months? Even if there is, is there a high enough salary to allow me to reach that amt?

what's the gates scholarship?

It's the Gates Millenium Scholarship (From Bill Gates). It is suppose to cover the cost of attendance for my next four years of undergrad.

i've a question. how would i know that how many credites can be transfered ? is the information in the final packet, which i haven't got yet?
and they asked me to send final transcripts for two years......

We were told by admissions that if you can't reach the minimum summer savings that they have a form you can complete in the fall and they will adjust your financial aide package with either more in a loan or grant. My son is from NY and school isn't even over until June 25th, It is impossible with the remaining weeks to earn that much and he has a full time job. The financial aide people told us about it....hope this helps! JM

hnbui - dad makes $90,000 and mom makes $50,000 at her day job and $5,000 teaching. Not exactly wealthy, but also not in the position to be able to afford cornell without any aid. Something would have been nice!

thanks for the heads up juniormom!

Anybody on here is an independent student?

I am an international student from romania, Eastern Europe. I was accepted as a transfer two weeks ago, and still I have no sign of financial aid package. I also got accepted to amherst...please tell me about the cornell/amherst campus as I have to make the decision of my life from photos...never set foot on US soil :P...
people told me that cornell doesn't offer a lot in fin aid. is is true?

That is kinda true, because cornell doesn't offer merit aid. I think they have some special scholars program, but the reason I say they don't give merit scholarship is because that's what it says on their FAQ page. The fact that we are transfers also make it a tad difficult.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Cornell offer merit aid?
Cornell University offers financial aid solely on the basis of demonstrated financial need. We do not offer merit awards based on academic, athletic, musical or other talent.

Here ya go, don't want to get flamed or anything. hahaa

hihihoh,

Both schools are great, but Cornell is better known around the world so it might be something you want to consider.

What's a fellowship? Because they say they don't give merit based aid....but isn't that sort of merit-based aid?

Ok, I still do not have my finaid. Am I correct to assume that if I do not have my finaid I do not need to respond? I remember reading something of that kind in the app.
