Accepted @UCI,but Summer Classes were cancelled (need answers)

I was admitted into UCI as a Mechanical Engineer. My school district (SDCCD) has recently announced that they have cancelled the entire summer program. I have completed Mechanics, I’m currently taking Wave/Optics/Modern Physics, and I had Electricity and Magnetism as a planned summer course. Now that they have cancelled the summer classes, something I had pretty much no control over, I was worried about whether my admission would be impacted.

On UCI’s TAG brochure (<a href="http://www.admissions.uci.edu/pdf/TAG_brochure_fall2011.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.uci.edu/pdf/TAG_brochure_fall2011.pdf</a>), the requirement regarding physics just says “Complete one year of calculus-based physics with corresponding labs.” However, on the admissions site (Transfer Admission, Selection and Preparation) it says something a little different; the requirement regarding physics says “Complete one year of calculus-based physics with labs (mechanics, electricity, and magnetism).” By the end of Spring 2011, I will have one year of Physics completed, just I will have completed Mechanics and Modern Physics (not Mechanics and E&M as is listed on the admissions page). Otherwise, I will have met all the requirements and additional requirements.

Will my admission be impacted? I tried calling UCI admissions but the lady who answered wasn’t very helpful. I will call the Engineering counseling when their office opens tomorrow morning.

Also, I remember back when fillign out applications, it said something like “Classes taken during Summer 2011 before transferring will not be considered for admission.” So wouldn’t that mean that since I’ve been accepted, UCI has accepted my application whether I was planning on taking (or dropping) a summer class or not?

Any advice would be helpful, ****s making me nervous all the sudden.

Bump 10 char

Try calling them again; maybe you’ll get a hold of somebody more helpful this time. Honestly, they are the only people who can know what will happen as far as your admission goes.

In either case, check to see if any of these classes are offered at other community colleges in your area. Perhaps you can take them elsewhere?

You can also ask admissions to transfer you to your admissions counselor. They should know the answer…

It probably won’t be a problem. I was accepted to computer engineering without optics done.

Edit: Ohhh you did the opposite of what I did o_O Hrmm I dunno :(

Got an update. I sent a message with UCI’s Message Center about changing my schedule (regarding the dropped course). I got a message back saying “The change has been noted and approved.” This seemed like good news, but a bit brief and ambiguous so just to be sure (as any CCer would probably do) I called up UCI admissions and they said that it means my acceptance wasn’t affected!

Everythings going to be Ok
