I recently got accepted to UCSD. I intend to major in Aerospace Engineering however they accepted me as Undecided because Aerospace is an impacted major. How difficult would it be to change my major to Aerospace if i decide to go there? Should I even bother going there anymore because i was accepted undecided and i want to major in Aerospace Engineering?

Anyone help please?

You have to apply to get into an impacted major, I believe. And you should go there if you feel that you really want to go there. Don’t let a “major” problem stop you from going there. I, myself, applied to Neuroscience which is an impacted major (and I got it) however I want to change it to Biochemistry which is also impacted. I decided to just wait it out until I have taken care all of my GE’s and take classes that both Neuroscience and Biochemistry require. Then I am going to apply to change my major.

It is up to you, but a suggestion I can make is for your freshman year, you can focus on GE’s and take some classes for your wanted major in your first year there, then apply to change your major.

If you are a transfer, you can pretty much do the same. You can just finish up any missing GE’s you need to have (depending on what college you got into, there may be some GE’s you still need) then you can take some classes for Aerospace Engineering and change your major.

The option is definitely there if you do choose to attend UCSD.

I sat down with a counselor after Fall quarter to discuss transferring into Bioengineering, and she planned out winter/spring quarter for me & how I would approach the department from there if my GPA was at least a 3.0+. (Fall quarter, I had followed BioE students’ curriculum and took MAE 9/MATH 20A/CHEM 6A as they would) and pulled out a 3.6. If you can prove yourself (with a high GPA) in Aerospace’s first year classes, you’ll definitely have a good chance of getting into the major.
