Accepted w/ Lower Than Avg. Grades, But...

There's been a lot of talk and panic around me (and that I've read) about UCLA possibly rescinding applications because of senior year grades. Then I started questioning my situation, which seemed very different from my friends'...

The thing is I was accepted into UCLA with lower than avg. grades. Junior year UNWEIGHTED average GPA = 3.1 and WEIGHTED = 4.0. My overall UC GPA = 3.5. UCLA was an extreme longshot for me, however I managed to get in (additionally, I also did NOT receive the "borderline" supplement asking for additional information).

1st semester senior year UW GPA of 3.0, weighted ~3.5. Now that it's 2nd semester, I have between 2.8-3.0 UW. I might end up with 2.8 this semester, which is one grade lower difference than what I normally receive (I'm taking some weighted/unweighted classes).

I'm not like the admits I know who got 4.3 GPAs and now are struggling to get a 3.0 UW. These are the grades I'm used to getting; basically, I'm still performing at the level I usually do (except for damned AP calculus which is required at my school) and there's no "extreme" drop. With that said, is my admission to UCLA still in danger of being rescinded?

If you got in with lower grades, they wont rescind your admission because they already know what you have. But if your senior grades fall under a 3.0 (or you get lower than a C in any class), then there is a chance.

hellogoodfriend,

You slipped through the system. Congrats!

Hah, thanks! But I'm still a little worried -- eek!

chill, we need kids at teh bottom of the curve

LOLOLOLOLOL That's so ****ed up! But I was thinking the same thing! HA! :D

but you need to make sure you don't get below 3.0 otherwise you'll have to take the risk...

Required AP Calculus...? O_O

"chill, we need kids at teh bottom of the curve"

Lol! So mean :p

it doesnt matter how you slipped through the cracks. you still need at least a 3.0 to meet the provisional acceptance requirements

no matter how you feel its the dead on truth. i cant imagine the grades i would have gotten in the chem or life sci series without these people

^ It was funny until you had to get all serious.

Btw, I think the reason I "slipped through the cracks" is because I am a Design | Media arts major (I think there's only about 40 of us accepted). I had a portfolio supplement.

And yes, AP Calculus is required for seniors at our school.

i know a second year biochem major who was also a borderline applicant with weighted gpa of 3.9

Guess what his ucla gpa is.

4.0

^ same here (except my weighted gpa was waay lower)

OP, don't worry. you start fresh at UCLA and with a little work you'll do well.

as to your original questions, I would try as hard as possible to get that GPA at 3.0. It isn't likely that they will rescind you with a 2.8, but it will cause unnecessary worries.

i think you're fine, the only problem is that at UCLA, you might be used to getting a 3.5 hs GPA, but everyone else is used to getting a 3.9. Just like you won't want to settle for less, neither will they. So you may have to work harder; that being said, as long as you're aware of it, you should be fine! good luck!

Thanks for the reassurance guys.

I think at the moment I have a 3.0 UW exactly, and am just a little worried that it might go down to a 2.8 after finals, but I'm working hard.

I've had other people also tell me they probably won't revoke me for a 2.8, but I don't won't to go through the stress of having to report it. Argh!
