There are quite a few colleges that accept the ACT in place of the SAT+Subject Tests. So, for those of you who were accepted to schools with only your ACT score submitted, what was your score and where were you accepted?

I’ve only heard back from 2 schools so far but…
34 ACT
Tulane - Accepted w/ 25K scholarship and honors program
Brown - Deferred (also sent 3 SAT IIs)

Does anybody have a list of schools that do this? I’d like to know what ones will take the ACT in place of subject tests…

^ The two that I think of right off the bat is Boston University and Boston College.

Rice University! Deadline is Jan. 1 though. Which is why I’m applying to Emory rather than Rice…there’s no way I can get my transcript in by the first.

^^BU is grade deflated and 54k a year… BC is Jesuit and I’m Jewish, so yeah, not happening
^ Too hot in Waco, TX. lol

Generally speaking, most colleges will let you just submit the ACT with Writing. However, some notable exceptions that require 2 subject tests are the UC’s, Williams, Harvard and Georgetown (which requires 3 I think…). Some colleges will require math and science subject tests (MIT).

University of Chicago, Boston College, Yale, and Brown come to mind.

Accepted to UChicago and BC with a 34. Waiting on Yale and Brown.

Parahaitiy,

Rice University is in Houston, Texas not Waco! Lol. I think you are thinking of Baylor University.

NewAccount, did you apply early?

I was accepted to Brown having only sent a 34.

Add Duke and Amherst to that list.

I’m in the same boat, sending only my ACT of 35 to Yale and Brown. I’ll be hearing back in April though. For those already accepted, were your writing scores good, too? The only thing I’m worried about is my mediocre 8 on the essay, which lowered my English/Writing score from a 35 to a 31. I truly hope that colleges don’t actually care too much about the writing section.

Colleges that accept the ACT in place of SAT I/2 Subject Tests:

Amherst College
Barnard College
Boston College
Boston University
Brandeis University
Brown University
Bryn Mawr College
Duke University
Haverford College
McGill University
Pomona College
Rice University
Swarthmore College
Tufts University
University of Pennsylvania
Vassar College
Wellesley College
Wesleyan University
Yale University

List was compiled from [Compass: Admissions Requirements](<a href=“SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group”>SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group)

Something important to note however, is that many schools highly recommend that you take two SAT IIs as an extra “supplement” depending on the major.

For example, for Penn, although ACT+writing is allowed, for Wharton and Engineering, two SAT IIs was “highly encouraged”. Same with Barnard, but for all majors.

Yes, I applied and was accepted early to BC and UChicago.

I should probably still do Subject Tests because my grades aren’t that good…Not like 3.7, like much lower…LOL.
