So while I have been accepted to CAS, I will not be getting a single penny of financial aid from Cornell because I am technically an "international" student and aid if very limited for us. Bottom line is my family can't afford the ticket price.

However, I am an international living in the US and my green card application is pending and i am expected to become a permanent resident within a year or so (if only i were a junior :[ ). While i cannot get financial aid this year, I am wondering if I can somehow get a guaranteed transfer option so that I can go to my second choice+cheaper college for a year and then transfer in soph year when I do qualify for aid. Has anyone heard of this option? is it possible?

Also, if I contacted the financial aid office and explained to them my situation, would that change their minds? should I appeal the financial aid decision just to give it a shot???

This seems plausible and reasonable. I would be surprised if Cornell refused to accommodate you in anyway.

I guess that’s one more who will get off the waitlist then, lol

^ aren’t YOU happy.

No that’s not one more off the waitlist…all schools over admit because not everyone agrees to come. A few thousand people would have to choose not to go before they go to the waitlist.

nerfighter - you can defer your acceptance for one year. If you need a year before you can get financial aid, defer it and start next year.

If i take a gap year I’m assuming I can’t attend another college in the meantime. That’s why I was wondering about the guaranteed transfer option and if it was possible for me to have that option instead of gap year. Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it.

and yeah, if I don’t attend, hope you get off the waitlist ArarVen
