My daughter’s first choice is Stonehill and she was recently accepted. We did not file the CSS Profile yet, because the deadline was February 1. Nowhere on their website did I see that it should be submitted early If anyone has any insight, could you please reply? I have email admissions, but not reply yet. She will be devastated if she missed out on a merit scholarship and can’t afford to attend.

Lynnmo - did you ever hear back from Stonehill on the CSS profile for merid aid?

I have not filed the CSS profile but I received a merit scholarship so tell your daughter not to worry

mind sharing what the merit award was?

it was $12,000 per year

I was accepted on Monday after impatiently waiting for January 15th to roll around. I was also accepted to Loyola University in Maryland. Anyone know which is the better choice…I’m leaning towards Loyola right now but I’m still not quite sure.

PS-I was accepted through my early action application on Common app. Not the select application.

If you are mature enough to use “sixty9” as your user name then you, too are mature enough to attend Loyola!!

so the css profile must be submitted by midnight on feb 1st?

Just spoke with Stonehill Admissions asking why we haven’t heard either way for early action (supposed to be Jan 15th). They said letters are going out next Monday. I’m wondering if that’s just defferal letters since I see many people have received acceptance letters. Has anyone been deferred yet?

Received Early Action Deferral today in MA GPA 3.0 SAT CR 640 MA 590 WR 720

ACT 30 ENG/WRITING 31

Varsity Sports/Captain Extensive co-curricular and community service
Stonehill only Early Action Deferral out of ten APPS…all accepted

Parentofone–we have not heard back from Stonehill about the CSS. I did check extensively online and can only find that the CSS is due by 2/1. I think possibly Early Decision applicants needed to get their CSS in earlier. I can only hope, as there’s nothing we can do about it now! I did submit it as soon as I read these posts though! Still no letter, so I think we will now need to wait until March/April, when everyone else gets their packages…

how long does it take for CSS to process?

From the CSS Profile site: Colleges and scholarship programs request your information via a paper report or electronically. Paper reports are sent within one week. Electronic data are sent according to the schedule requested. Make sure you submit the PROFILE in time to meet important institutional deadlines.

I do not understand what they mean by “…according to the schedule requested”. I do know that it took me a few hours to complete the form itself, so you shouldn’t wait till the last minute!

has anyone heard when merit scholarship letters will be mailed?

I do not know, but am confused as to why some applicants have gotten their merit award and others have not. Does anyone know why they did not include notice with everyone’s admission decision letter? Could it be that Early Decision applicants were notified first? My daughter applied Early Action, not Early Decision.

i believe that students who applied using the select application received their scholarship letters with their acceptance letter. one of the agreements the college had with using the select app was that students would receive a decision in 4 weeks and immediate scholarship consideration.

oh noooo. my daughter applied with the select app so I’m guessing that if she didn’t get anything in the acceptance letter, then she’s not getting anything?! :(

I wouldn’t fret @lynnmo
Stonehill was most likely only able to award its strongest applicants with scholarships through the select app, but she still could recieve a scholarship after regular decisions have been finalized. Although, after looking through my Stonehill financial aid packet, it seemed as if a very small % of the entering freshmen actually got scholarships and almost every scholarship required that the student be in the top 5-10% of their graduating class.

Lynnmo, do you know if your daughter had a high class rank or maybe did she opt to not send test scores, which could have hurt her initial chances for a scholarship?

Arghhh, so I don’t think she will get anything then. She was in top 15% and weighted GPA is about 3.85, 2 APs and 14 or more honors classes. 3 season sports for 4 years (Varsity for 10 of 12 seasons), decent community service hours, yearbook committee, peer helping network exec board and a couple other clubs. SATs were only 1800/2400, and she did send them…she doesn’t typically test great on standardized tests. Maybe shouldn’t have sent SATs Maybe she can send an email inquiring…at least they will know her interest is there. Any idea if that would help?

Her grades (to me) seem excellent and deserving of a merit scholarship, but honestly I have no idea how this process works. I know that my dad has contacted the man that heads Stonehill’s financial aid and my dad absolutely loves him. I would email or call him with any concerns. Is your daughter really good at sports? If so have her contact the captain because Stonehill offers generous sports scholarships.
