Has anyone heard?

The only ones who would hear this early are E.D. kids.

We haven’t heard anything. My D auditioned on Jan. 20 at Tisch.

Unless you auditioned and applied ED (which you would have heard back on by now), you will not hear anything about your audition/application until NYU sends out admission decisions for the entire school in late March.

@halflokum - Do you know how many students they expect to accept this year for MT?

@DoReMiMom, Historically the targeted class size for MT is 64 so that they can run 4 groups of 16 through the program together. My understanding is that which group of 16 you are placed with initially is somewhat dependent on music theory skills. Dance classes are also leveled so there is a mixing of the various groups for those classes too.

How many they “accept” to get to 64, I do not know. I’m sure there are a few extras to account for take-rate like at most programs. I hope this helps.

An interesting tidbit from the Chicago Unifieds audition – they said they typically make offers to 500 (MT plus all the acting studios) for a yield of around 400 students.

Thanks for the replies. Great info. My D limited herself by saying she only wants to be considered for MT. I “gently” suggested she not do that but she made it very clear she knows exactly what she wants. She said she’d much prefer to be at a lesser known program for MT than NYU for straight acting. Sigh.

Interesting AssToTheMT. I never knew the Gross/Net numbers for Tisch. Thanks for sharing.

Well the good news is, it’s a very big program which means lots of seats. The bad news is that the MT specific program, because there is only one studio that does MT, is statistically the hardest to get into. There are many MT hopefuls placed in acting studios every year. (Most end up loving it.)

My daughter wanted MT, but was open to an acting studio placement too. Mostly, she really wanted Tisch which was always her top choice. But I can certainly understand and respect your daughter’s thinking @DoReMiMom. And it may just work out for her. But I do know a talented girl that made that same gamble last year and she did not get in to MT and was out of NYU, her dream school as a result. Now would she have gotten an acting studio placement had she not limited herself? We’ll never know but she certainly might have. She ended up in highly-coveted, top notch program outside of NYC though I’ve heard a rumor that she is unhappy with the location. I think NYC was a big draw in her case.

I’m pretty sure that if you say you prefer MT, but are also open to an acting studio placement, it doesn’t have any bearing on whether or not you get into MT meaning: if they feel the MT program is the best fit for you, they will put you there. So there is no downside risk of saying you’d be open to an acting studio placement if you in fact are open to it. But there is no reason to say you are open to an acting studio if you just are not.

My student is a current freshman in NSB. They were told by a faculty member that last year was the last time NSB will be taking that large of a class. I do not know the target number going forward.

@MtmomNSB, I’m honestly not sure what you are talking about. I’ve heard nothing that suggests Tisch is shrinking the size of their MT program. I do know that NSB is phasing out the acting track because Strasberg is back in the mix as an acting studio option. Have you heard something that I missed?

Does anyone know the date that decisions were released last year? They are saying April 1st. Any history of it being earlier?

@hermomma There are a lot of different dates people have listed. I’ve seen anywhere from March 18 - April 1. Everyone seems to be “an expert” on it too so I’m guessing we’ll all have to unfortunately keep checking the portal

@DoReMiMom- Hopefully they will email when something has changed on the portal. Hoping this will all be over soon!!! Good luck

Good luck to you too @hermomma I CANNOT wait for this all to be over and the kids know where they’re accepted.

Agreed this process has been crazy!!! Then this part will be over then we have to figure out how we pay for it LOL.

@hermomma, the decisions last year came out on March 28th. In 2012 it was March 29th. The year before it was a similar time fame but I’d have to dig to find the actual date. Point is, it comes at the end of the month historically which means do not expect it this week. @DoReMiMom,… those are the actual dates, not pretend expert dates. But now I will pretend to be an expert and tell you that checking the portal before towards the end of next week is probably a waste of time. But do it if it helps with the nervous energy. It’s free to look :-)

@halfokum- March 28th or 29th or even 30th is STILL better than April 1st!! I will keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the info.

I’m hearing tomorrow may be the day…

it was tweeted on admission page they are all going out tomorrow an email from morning til night thry said. thry gad 52000 applicants for all their programs. if accepted said you can see financial aid by 300 pm EST
