waitlisted; thought I’d probably get in since I got in UW, but w/e.
How many of you guys submitted an essay and recommendation with your application? (since they were optional)
mine still just says defer ://////
@StressssedOut I submitted the essay, and had 3 letters of rec. Got waitlisted.
Regrettablly sent none of those.
I didn’t get an update on the tracker. @17andcomingclean same.
@whoomst - bummer, but from your previous comments you’ve been accepted to a few really great engineering schools. The International pool is going to be a bit more competitive than the regular crowd at many of these so not surprising at all to see some unintuitive outcomes. Congrats, btw, and good luck with your decision.
Why so many prospective students waitlisted this week and why so few (if any) acceptances or flat out rejections?
Peculiar to say the least.
I was accepted a few days ago.
Major: Economics
SAT: 1350
GPA: 3.8 UW
Since we’re on the topic, I didn’t do the essay, but I had two really good letters of rec.
im kind of afraid to check my portal… did you guys who got a decision get an email or anything saying your decision was available?
No, they didnt send any email.
@rstdane1 - UMN tends to send out acceptances first. That’s why those who are still waiting to hear near the deadline start to get very nervous. The waitlists are one of the last - if not the last - group. (I think they send out rejections earlier as well but not 100% sure on that).
@JBStillFlying so those of us deferred and still waiting for decisions are more likely to be rejected at this point? There is a week left in the admissions cycle, and I would have thought I would hear back by now. Being rejected from not only Carlson but CLA at this point for my particular stats (29 ACT, 3.8 GPA but 4.0 UW Senior year) seems very upsetting to me to say the least. I would be very surprised considering I have seen people get into Carlson with the same ACT and similar GPA’s, and people with lower stats into CLA.
Did you mean being rejected for first choice school, and admitted second choice? Or should I be concerned about my admission to The U altogether? This process is beginning to get quite confusing and frustrating for me- just looking for some insight.
UMN probably has a lot of movement on their waitlist with many co-applicants ultimately choosing WI (and vice versa). Hopefully those that really want to attend can still do so. My son probably headed elsewhere. Good luck to all.
@corarose the ones who have been rejected so far seem to be entirely out of consideration. In the past, those with the right stats made it in, even if they had to wait till the very end of the cycle (it’s happened every year and who knows why some are selected before others when the stats are similar). If you are not admitted it would be baffling, to say the least. Crossing my fingers for you!
@JBStillFlying thank you for your help! Just needed to confirm my thoughts. Sometimes I think that I have been waiting so long that it is making me crazy! You have been a great voice for a lot of people here.
@JBStillFlying are you saying you think that if you’re still deferred and did not go to waitlist there is less of a chance?
@twoattheU -I’m not sure, as this is the first year they’ve even used “deferred” as a possible decision What we do know is, like in previous years, some are getting the decision at the very end of the admission cycle. Given that the have “rolling decision” and have obviously admitted a whole lot of kids already, this tends not to be good news. However, in the past those with the stats for their college of choice got in - even if they were in the last possible round of admission. Could be wrong but the U seems to waitlist more than they reject outright - at least based on what we’ve seen on CC.
The admission profile tends to be a pretty good indicator of whether you get in - regardless of whether you are in-state or OOS. So check your stats against your first and 2nd choice. If both are a reach - you might be on hold because they are deciding whether to waitlist or admit you. If your stats match at least your 2nd choice, you might be on hold because they are deciding whether to admit you to first or 2nd choice. That’s how it used to work, at any rate.
Accepted back in October to Carlson as an OOS student. As of today, I have yet to see any updates to my financial profile which means I have not and will probably not receive any type of scholarships. There is absolutely nothing there.in my profile other than my acceptance and blanks. Based on the fact that as of now, I have much better financial options, UMTC is not even a consideration. Yet, I will not decline my acceptance until my profile is completed and all the information is communicated. Not sure if any of you have received a similar email from Admissions asking for our intentions as far as attending the U. Not sure if the reason for these emails is to be able to find out how many more they should admit knowing who will not attend from those already admitted.
While this admissions process has been frustrated on many fronts, if you know you’re not attending the U, please decline admission. There are so many students in limbo who are hoping to attend. Help them out, please! Then, you can also say you denied Minnesota your attendance.
