today....but no one is here to see it lol

Congratulations qrd567!!!
My d also got her letter in the mail the other day. She also received a small scholarship a couple of days later. I believe it was called a deans scholarship.
She really like UMBC, and so did I. I don't understand why it is so overlooked in the college search for our Maryland kids. It is an excellent school.

congrats qrd567~=)
i got in about a week ago too.
lol i guess lots of maryland kids r also pretty interested in umcp.
well i like both of them though.=P

UMCP is a more popular choice probably because although UMBC has really strong programs, Maryland has better academics in some of the more popular fields like engineering, journalism, architecture, etc. The social life is more active, too, esp. for the party/sports types, and the campus is prettier. But I know a lot of really smart kids from high school, accepted to Harvard, Yale, etc. that chose to attend UMBC on scholarship instead. They say they're challenged academically and they're satisfied with the social life. UMBC is immediately a second choice for most kids, but once there they seem to have just as much fun as the people at CP.

Congrats to the OP :).

"But I know a lot of really smart kids from high school, accepted to Harvard, Yale, etc. that chose to attend UMBC on scholarship instead."

.......I highly doubt that. Harvard and Yale have very high matriculation rates..and even if students do decide not to attend these universities, they will usually go to another university in the top 20..

^Um, no, because the whole reason people turn down those schools is because they are planning to go to grad school and don't want to be in debt. Going to another Top 20 would kind of defeat the purpose, I think.
