Accepted!!

Yes!! I got the letter today!

Congratulations! You got your acceptance very early. Are you can athlete, because I don't believe acceptances are going out until March?

It is probably because I was accepted into the honors college and got invited to the Distinguished Scholar Competition. I had never even heard about this scholarship competition, and I am so excited!

Wow thats great! Whats are your stats?

hey i just got my letter too and i got invited to that competition also. i'm really excited about it and kinda nervous too to compete for the scholarships.

I'm happy with my stats, but compared to everyone else on this site, they are not the greatest. 1380 SAT, 32 ACT, 760 Writing, 740 Math IIC, 660 Spanish, 3.8 UW(all APs and honors). I also believe that I had excellent essays. Marymary, im nervous too, but it should be fun.

is delaware your top choice or what other schools are you considering?

Delaware is my third choice, but I still really like it. My first two choices are Richmond and UVA. However, I would need to get money from Richmond and get accepted into UVA. UVA is a reach, but who knows?

Congrats!

Isn't the regular date for notification around March?

Good luck at the scholarship competition!

Thank you! Ya, I think the regular date for notification is mid-March.

ah one of my good friends is absolutely in love with richmond, but she has the same problem. doesn't it suck that awesome schools cost so much?

Yes it does.

I've also applied to Delaware...didn't receive anything yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll get in. Hope to be invited to that scholarship competition too! You guys are right, it's so annoying that other good schools cost so much - one of the main reasons I'm seriously considering Delaware is because, with the chance of a merit scholarship, it is sooo much cheaper than other schools. Do you know when the date for the scholarship thing is?

The scholarship competition is March 11th and 12th.

Where is everyone else applying and, if you all don't mind, what are your stats?

I have a 1510 SAT (800v/710m), SAT IIs: Bio 730/ Writing 670/ Math IIC 630
My GPA is a 4.0 i think (we're on the 0-100 scale, I have a 98), we don't rank but I'm one of the top few.
I have a lot of music ECs (marching band, band, chamber orchestra, pit orchestra, an outside orchestra, music honor society) w/ a leadership position, some really good community service stuff, and key club.
Other places I applied: Binghamton (accepted), Brandeis, Tufts, Cornell, Princeton, William & Mary, Duke, NYU

What about you?

Today I got a letter saying "We've got you application and are shocked that you didn't aply for the honors program... blah, blah... your creditials put you as a strong candidate for our honors program... blah... if you want, send us answers to these essay questions by..."

Should I do it? I really don't have much of an interest in the honors program and I HIGHLY doubt that I'd get into it but is the merit money easier to get if you're in it?

I had emailed them about this and I was assured that my status in their honors program would not effect their giving(or not giving) of merit money.

Thoughts?

stats: SAT 1540 (800 V 740 M); SAT II's Writing 710, Math IIC 760, Bio 800; 4.0 UW GPA... don't know what it is weighted. #1 rank. Various EC's but nothing outstandingly fabulous, good essays, and excellent recs.

Applied: Penn State Schreyers Honors, Ithaca, Cornell, Boston U, Franklin & Marshall

anovice - i believe i remember reading that all those admitted to the honors are automatically considered for scholarships, but if you have an outstanding record then you will still be considered so i don't think that much matters. Everyone I've talked to really liked the honors college though, so you might want to consider it.

I would recommend the honors college, but I think it is a little more work (not a lot more though). My sister goes to UDel and is in honors and likes it, but then again I know someone there not in honors who also likes it. I'm not sure if it affects merit money, but there are some perks to being in honors - they have different (in my opinion, better) housing, and I think they can register for classes easier. Plus you'll be around people more on your intellectual level, which I find appealing.

marymary - you're stats are very good! Is Delaware your first choice?

hey thanks. i'm not sure where i'm going yet. i'm also applying to penn state's honors college and i haven't heard back from them yet. of course some scholarship money would be nice and help make that decision. =)
