I got accepted into WILLIAMS!! YEA!!! I'm so excited! I can't wait to get home and actually read the letter myself! I called home this afternoon and asked my mom if she'd check the mailbox and see if I got anything (this is something I've NEVER done). I just did it on a whim... Well, she mentioned all these junk mailers... and then, she said, "oh, here's a large envelope from williams". I asked her, "oh could you open it please?" and she did. She started reading it.... I just about died.... AFter about reading a paragraph she asked, "so, does this mean you're in?" and I said, YES!! This is sooo exciting!!

Congratulations Cools!!

Cools...What are you going to do if Brown says yes?
My S has applied there as well. Tough choice if the time comes.

COols, Congratulations! Very COol indeed.

Oh gosh, i was thinking about that... what if brown also accepts me. <pulling hair=""> ahh! It's so good it hurts! My "uncle" (not bloodwise) graduated from amherst and he was pretty funny when I told him I got in. He said, "Oh that's great! Now you have a backup in case amherst doesn't come through". hahah, he fully knows I prefer williams but it was funny nevertheless. .... Wow, i'm just on a high today.... feel like dancing away with fred astaire or something.</pulling>

... I hope you're a girl... (lol, just kidding ;-))

Congrats COols!!! If you decide on Williams, I might see ya next year (ED applicant). Good luck with your other schools. But you already got one awesome school in the bag... Congratulations!

Great going COols! ...hope you choose Williams

Cools...What did you consider to be your hook?

a few things - hispanic chilean, first gen college, under 20k income. Had the overcoming adversity hook (you can see on the early write thread) http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=510547#post510547 adn one thing with the adversity thing too... just remembered, along with it all was my mom's physical condition. She has fibromyalgia and is almost deaf now so it's very tough for her to work. She is trying very hard to do what she can, but it is difficult when she can't hear or get out of bed because of the constant pain. I love her though....so much. OH, and YES i am a girl!! Fred....sigh... unless Cary grant showed up at my doorstep. I might have to leave fred for cary. lol

Cools... I think that any college would be super privileged to have you as a student and as a member of the community. I'm really glad that the Williams adcoms recognized what a gem you are.

P.S. Due to the new Williams financial aid policy, you should have a free ride with no loans. What a deal!!!!

I really am excited about it all. It's just absolutely amazing .. i'm still in shock.

I'm so happy for you cools!!

Cools....Sounds like you got some excellent advise on where to apply.
Any credit to a particular guidance counselor? My son was home schooled but he developed a friendship with the head of guidance from our school district. He met him when he took the AP's at the High School. After we picked the school list we sought him out to ask him if we were crazy. He though that my S would have a shot at Brown but considered Williams up there as a long shot with Harvard and Princeton. Where else other than Brown and Columbia did you apply? I believe that Brown has a similar financial aid package as Wiliams with all grants. Columbia is not as generous what I have read.

I also applied to Uconn, Brandeis and Amherst c. And, although my guidance counselor really didn't recommend colleges for me that I actually applied to, she was very supportive of the ones that I told her I wanted to go to and got everything done on time (wrote a very nice letter for me too).

I got an acceptance from Uconn today actually.... just didn't have the same impact.... lol, The folder that Williams sent was great, "Likelihood this big purple folder means what you think it does: 100%" haha, I love that!

Yeah....Great folder and a handwritten note. They liked my son's essay.
You didn't get the early letter from Amherst I guess. Either did we.
That is what makes this even more special.

i thought you dont get a reply till april
