ehh mine went to evaluation on the 16 too must be ur good grades that hurried it up

^^^ Actually John, I have a 36 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA too,and OSU is my favorite school on my list. Even if I don't get a full ride, I'll still probably attend.

My son went to "decision" today, also. YEA!

His application went to completed/ evaluation on 11/20 and he submitted the paper application through the mail, not the online version. (Don't ask me why..)

He has w gpa of 4.05, uw 3.95 and is 4 out of 130 in a small rural high school

Test scores: 34 ACT, 1460/2120 SAT

I hope he gets a phone call this soon...

It must be the top candidates.

My app went into evaluation on 11/14 and someone here mentioned that they had heard back and they had his/her app go in to evaluation on 11/29!

Damn, I just want to find out!

I would guess that there's two reasons for this. The first being the need to get a grasp on the overall quality of the applicant pool in order to determine the best, but also most realistic, cut-off point. Ohio State's been incredibly accurate in estimating yield, so I think they're just trying to figure out where to start declining people. Second, you want to accept the most desirable candidates as soon as possible in order to put their merit-aid packages together and recruit them to accept their place in the freshman class.

Well... I always say, you never know, it's not just test scores that matter, so I'll keep my hopes up and spirits high

Good Luck, Scout.

As I've said, I understand why the system works this way, but it doesn't mean that anyone not getting a quick acceptance is out of the running or not valued by Ohio State.

Just need to be patient and hopeful.

Scout - don't forget that even if you don't get the answer you are hoping for at the Columbus campus, you can always start at one of the regional campuses and transfer to the Columbus campus as a sophomore. I know several kids who are taking that approach - some because they were not admitted to Columbus, some because they wanted to start in a smaller environment before making the jump to the big enchilada. Good luck!

JohnC613-
beach... 36 act and OSU. haha talk about safety. i totally understand tho. looking for that free ride.

I originally was only applying for the scholarships as a backup, but after I visited the school a few times, OSU grew on me and is now my first choice.

I've been waiting since Oct. 25....I wish they looked at legacy-both my parents are OSU alums

Can't do the satellite campus thing, my parents won't let me

DD got a letter from OSU today, saying she got in and more to come.

Neighbor got in yesterday. He applied mid-September. GPA is around 3.4 unweighted, but don't know his ACT/SAT.

[[I wish they looked at legacy-both my parents are OSU alums]]

One thing to remember about Ohio State is that they were forced to have open (or nearly open) admissions in the sixties and seventies by a hostile, populist governor. After he left office, and they undid his policies, they faced a lot of public outrage from a populace in Ohio that had gained the notion over the previous two decades that an acceptance to Ohio State was something of a birthright.

To minimize the political fallout of selective admissions, they have been (correctly in my mind) absolutely rigid about not favoring the children of alumni. If it makes you feel any better, there have been several instances of prominent donors and Ohio politicians who have had their kids rejected lately, so it's not just alumni kids that are being singled out.

However, good luck.

I was accepted two days ago. 3.6 unweighted GPA, 4.0 weighted, 28 ACT, 1200 SAT if that helps anybody out with assessing their chances.

So Future Penn Stater, are you going to be a Buckeye instead???

Does OSU allow to reject an in-state applicant? My understanding is that OSU could only reject OOS applicants.

From the reports of two nearby HS, I saw pretty much 1/3 is going to OSU.

Absolutely, Dad II. Ohio State rejected 48% of their applicants last year, so that had to account for far more than just the OOS applicants.

Last year's freshman profile was
52% acceptance rate
57% from top tenth of h.s. class; 91% from top quarter
middle 50% ACT range of 26-30

During the Rhodes era, Ohio State was only allowed to reject OOS applicants but those policies were changed shortly after he left office--the very year in fact that Rhodes' appointees to the board went into the minority. Even towards the end of the Rhodes era, they managed to defy the state government and reject about 10% of in-state applicants.

In-state applicants are guaranteed admission to a branch campus but still have to apply to transfer over to the Columbus campus after their first year.

Damn... why haven't I gotten an answer yet!?

I just checked my application status on a whim and god the good news. I think a student called me yesterday to tell me that I got in, but I wasn't home.
