Debruns--
Fordham offers three full tuition scholarships--the Jesuit, the Presidential (I think that's what it's called), and the Semifinalist. The first two also provide room and board. I got the Semifinalist, which I was eligible for because of my National Merit finalist status (you only have to be a semifinalist to be eligible, though). I'm not sure if everyone who was a NM Semifinalist got the full tuition award or not. If your son is named a NM Semifinalist, that will greatly increase his chances of getting a full scholarship next year, as they only give the other two to the "top 20 applicants", and I believe community service involvement plays a big part in the Jesuit/Presidential scholarship committee's decision.

Accepted into Fordham College at Rose Hill.

I got a Dean's Scholarship of 14,100 a year, plus a 5,500 room grant, and 3,000 work study plus a 1,000 a year grant from TAP (which is a NY state tuition program.) I have to wait on my other schools to see if I'll take it. I wonder if I can negotiate my aid? The way it was structured was Dean's Scholarship, Perkins Loan, Stafford Loan, Work Study, TAP...but no need based aid. Any thoughts? Or is the Dean's all I can get?

Thanks for the info. I got a book from coinsidently from Fordham today with all the class's etc and the list of school scholarships. I'm not stupid, but I find the maze of money loans, scholarships, work studies, etc. a little confusing. My son's guidance counselor warned us about work study programs. He said don't be deceived that YOU get the money, the students do, and it doesn't come right off the tuition. Most kids keep it for spending money. He said the word grant and scholarship shouldn't be mixed up with loans of any kind. Try to see the best package you can get BEFORE loans. Sounds easy, but not always possible. My son liked the idea of being in New York City and will definitely try to get the most he can if he gets accepted next year. Did you know anyone that went there? We only knew two, one loved it, one said it was so-so.

OK, am I the only accepted student who hasn't gotten a financial aid package yet? My letter said I'd get it by early April. I hope that doesn't mean my offer will be lower than all the earlier acceptees. :-/ Oh well.
