The Centennial scholarship must vary by OOS or in-state because we’re in RI and our D received only a $3k/yr Cent. Her stats are SAT: 600/700/800 and top 5% of her class, plus 2 varsity sports for several years.

But because our in-state tuition is only $9500, they probably realize that they don’t have to offer us as much to entice us, whereas OOS tuition is mid-20s, so offering 8k still means OOS would have to play ~16k.

Sounds like pretty typical state U pattern… though they’re supposed to be there for RI’ers, they’ll gladly take the extra OOS $.

My Daughter was accepted with the centennial scholarship, we’re in AL.
The cenennial will help alot, its 10 k per year if she maintains a 3.0, however I’m concerneded about the gap.

LTempleton,
Your Daughter got her acceptance for Fall, 2010 and she already knows she got the centennial? Did that information all come together in the same acceptance mailing? Thanks.

sandman, I have perfect subject test scores in Italian, Spanish and US I. 1500 in my sats :/(i know the are bad), did wayyyy to many activities in HS and my gpa is 3.3 I only took 3 honor courses and have really good recommendations. Played sports in every season and I am really active in my community–doing several activities, etc… My major is international relations w/ a minor in economics.

I was able to view my financial package online…
Even after the 40,000 schlorship and financial aid…
They wated a parent loan of 24,000 per year.
I quickly grabbed my acceptance letter and declined admission.
This was for OOS.

I just got my acceptance letter by email this morning and i am SSSUUUPPPEEERRR HHHAAAPPPYYY!!! Even though it was my safety school i’m still pretty excited and happy because its my first acceptance this year. Got in for biological sciences and i’m international… :-))

@BillyJack sorry for the delay in responce, yes it was all in the same acceptance letter.
Fin aid letter came last week. @GCmom415 I got the same 24,000 parent loan figure and we are OOS.
since my D has applied to all OOS colleges (our state does not have her desired major) I’m interested to see if I get the same aprox Parent loan figure from all…I have a feeling I will.

sberger, awarded a loan is an interesting way to put it.

The figure next to subsidised loan means intrest does not acrue till you begin paying back. unsubsidised loan means intrest will start acrueing as soon as the money is dispursed, however you don’t have to begin paying back untill your out of school…but the intrest still acrues. If there is a figure next to parent plus loan, then this is a loan parents GET to take on behalf of the student, intrest accrues immediately and payments start immediately too. I don’t know if this helped but i’m sure you can find other info on this site and when I emailed the fin aid office at URI they were extreamly helpful.

Thanks. Yea, im not going to take the loan probably, being that I should not need it.

I still trying to decide between URI and Towson(with the Freshman Transition Program…I did really well on the math SAT but my reading and writing were a little low so they want to put me in the FTP for a first semester and as long as I get a 3.0+, not hard, I am automatically in at Towson). Academically they are about the same and I am not to worried about athletics or any of that stuff. I am a computer science major, I think that explains a lot. If anyone knows a bit about the two can you help me out?

Four years ago, I was accepted to the Pharmacy program with full OOS for all six years (did not attend). 4.0 UW GPA, top 2% rank, 12 AP classes, 33 ACT (high science, low-ish math), and fairly good ECs, though none were pharm-related per se. However, I recognize that things might have changed since then, so my data may be useless.
