Accepted

well at first i thought maybe it had something to do with a specific major, but i am not an art major, so i guess it does not.

collegecrazy806 did the same thing happen to you?

cause i am freaking out about it! like...why havent i heard back while EVERYONE else has!?

if you change your major do you still have the scholarship and university honors? i got accepted to the business school as a finance major.. i know im gona stay in the business school but im pretty sure im changing my major

if you are still satying in the business school then i'm pretty sure you'll keep both your scholarship and university honors

DS received an email over the weekend congratulating him on his acceptance. We are waiting to see what we receive through snail mail.

i emailed and i've tried calling the office of undergraduate admissions for University of maryland regarding the fact that the admissions decision online says that a decision has not been made yet.

i havent recieved a reply for my email (not really shocked) but i also havent been able to get through on the phone.

has anyone gotten any info about decisions?

My son just picked up his email- accepted into Honors!

ACT: 33
GPA; 3.7 unweighted, 4.3 weighted
attended UMD last summer for entrepreneurship course
ECs: 4 years Soccer, 3 years Track

DS accepted into the Chemistry and Life Sciences & Accepted into Honors

I got through to admissions yesterday, they said they are releasing priority decisions all week to wait and I should have a decision posted by Fri. Although the first operator said it was pending and then she put me through to a counselor who said he sees a decision but they can't release over the phone - it almost felt like he made the decision right then and there - kind of weird. I would say call admissions, I think they are having some gliches. I had to call a few times and then hold for 20 minutes. I am worried about the ACT scores having issues (prior posts)- my ACT was higher than my SAT - I hope they rec. both scores and are not just making a decision with my SAT score.

i got my letter today.

i didnt think I would get in

Got admitted today. Really excited and seriously considering it. I was also accepted into CP Scholars. I know roughly what it is, but I was wondering if anyone can tell me the real deal about it - is it good? is it BS? is it prestigious? are some of its programs better than others?

Thanks in advance, and congrats to everyone else accepted to UMD.

Checked the website. I was accepted into Honors, Gemstone, and Honors Humanities.

I plan on majoring in government. Would HH be better suited for that? Does anyone really know the advantages and disadvantages of HH/Gemstone?

To receive the Gemstone citation, it mandates a group project(mini-thesis), it demands time, just b/c you have 4 yrs, don't expect to cram it into your sr yr and ride for the first 3. If it isn't your thing to work in a group than it will be a disadvantage.

My D also received the Honors acceptance letter. She really did jump up and down screaming!! She said she felt proud that she got into Honors.

We are out-of-state (California) so I really hope we get some merit $$$. Anybody have any idea how they decide to give $1K or $8K or ? per year?

18chai,when did she get the letter? did she find out online?

Suzy13 -
On Feb. 3, my D received an email acceptance announcement. The physical letter arrived on Feb. 5.

Thank you, so i guess it could be any day and not just Fridays.

My D never got an acceptance email altho they do have her email address; I read her decision on the "unofficial" link here and she got a snail mail letter maybe last Wednesday. She was admitted for spring (waitlist fall) and didn't get any cool car window stickers or anything.

Got accepted last weekend (it was my 18th birthday. great present!)

I am a little curious about Gemstone as well. What types of majors are usually involved in that?

My daughter's acceptance originally only said honors. But today when I looked at it again, it now says Gemstone as well. I told her to start looking into it online at the gemstone pages, but I am curious from a "real world" perspective if that would be right for her.

She is planning on majoring in dietetics and probably minoring in a foreign language or possibly doing a double major.

I am also a little concerned with the honors courses because with all her AP/IB credits, she may be validating out of a lot of the General Ed type courses that are usually offered for honors. She was hoping to use all those extra credits to be able to do the double major or study abroad.

hey everyone. i am currently a sophomore in gemstone. it is mostly science majors but there are definitely a good number of humanities type majors. there are a few social science projects going on right now.

i wrote a much longer description in another thread about gemstone. if you have any other questions, feel free to ask me. i'll answer truthfully. here's the link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/646884-into-u-honors-program-should-i-do-gem-hh.html
