D just got her letter today. She didn't get the Arts Scholarship she applied for - but that's no surprise. She had big conflicts leading up to the finalist weekend and withdrew her name. She did get a Presidential Scholarship - don't know how much though. She's very happy!!

Congratulations to your daughter, woody. I was accepted as well, but with the Arts Scholarship.

Congratulations, kari! Do you think you'll go?

I really can't say as of yet. I still have to hear back from 8 more schools and ultimately it all depends on financial aid. Will your daughter be going for sure?

kari91: If you don't mind me asking, what other schools did you apply to?

Rutgers, SUNY Albany, Skidmore, Bowdoin, Swarthmore, Carleton, Macalester, Colby, Oberlin, and Wesleyan. The majority are extremely far reaches, but nothing's wrong with taking a chance.

No, she hasn't made her mind up completely but she does like the school.

Same here - D applied to eight schools but likes H&WS. Got a faculty scholarship too. Her list...Williams, Midd, Davidson, Richmond, Lafayette, Franklin & Marshall, Denison - applied to all RD so H&WS is the only one she has heard from.

Today my financial aid award came and it's a great amount. Hopefully if and when I get into my other schools, the award will be as generous.

Can you all discuss why HWS stands out?...especially gasdoc....

I think it's a combination of having the "classic" feel and traditions of coordinate single-sex colleges that share an attractive campus, plus the students seemed happy, and there appears to be a lot of personalized attention. When they visited during the summer they saw more kids in the science labs than other colleges they visited. A kid can excel there, and be well prepared to move on to the next level.

From my point of view, a 30 to 40% discount, given the current economic climate, doesn't hurt, as I'm currently less interested in paying "sticker price" for an undergrad degree.

Grrr, I got a big envelope today, but it was just generic financial aid info, what a tease.

I was wondering if any of the accepted students on this thread were looking to play sports at HWS? I have a D that wants to play lax in college.

Congratulations!
I applied RD and still waiting for my decision...

congratulations for getting accepted! How long did you have to wait before you heard from them?

Congrats to the students that have been accepted at this wonderful school. Would you share whether you were ED or RD and did you hear from H-WS online or by snail mail?

D applied RD but also applied for a Trustee Scholarship in January - she didn't get one but did get an acceptance letter notifying she was selected as a Faculty Scholar in mid-Feb. This was by snail mail.

Gasdoc, how was the finanial aid? aside from the faculty scholarship what else did your D get? if you don't mind....

Just the Faculty Scholarship of 15k per year (60k). We wouldn't qualify for any need-based aid. She got a Marquis Scholarship at Lafayette (64k plus 4k for study abroad) and a Founders Scholarship (68k) at Denison to compare to other LACs.

I wonder how we'd fare. It's really difficult when you don't meet their "need" standards and yet you're not wealthy enough to afford sticker price. lol.
