congrats aws!!

thanks aws crossing my fingers :)

@ mongoose8p:
I checked Gibson on Thursday night, and then again last night, and they had posted my acceptance sometime between then. good luck! : )

Just found out I’ve been accepted! I hope I get some merit aid, but I strongly doubt it. Without it, attending Tulane will be very difficult.

Congratulations everyone!! How many people are planning on attending?

I am pretty sure I will attend unless the economy really takes a big turn for the worse.

I really would like to attend as Tulane is probably the best school I’ll be accepted to academically, but I really don’t know if I can handle the cost. I doubt I’ll get merit aid at all, so I’d need a pretty generous financial aid package.

Was notified yesterday that i was accepted. for all those that like to compare stats: male 31 3.5 lots of good ECs.

Really excited/relieved that i got accepted, as it was my first one. Don’t know if ill be attending, really depends if a couple of my bigger reaches accept me and what kind of money Tulane will be offering. The lady in admissions said my letter was sent on the nineth so it should be coming in early this week, does anyone know if financial aid stuff comes with it?

Just the merit scholarship offer comes in the acceptance letter. Other FA is separate, not sure when you here about that.

so was i supposed to apply specifically for merit somewhere? or was just doing the personal application automatically putting me into merit scholarship consideration?

While there are some scholarships foe which one must apply, the bulk of the merit awards come without a special application.

It is automatic. The only ones you apply for are the Deans Honor Scholarship (full tuition) and the Community Service Scholarship ($5,000 - $15,000) unless you are from Louisiana in which case there are a few more available. But all admitted students are automatically considered for the Presidential (25K), Distinguished Scholar (22K), Founders (20K) and Academic Achievement (15K) Awards. All amounts are annual and good for 4 years, or 5 in the case of architecture students.

He’s in! What a relief!

Last year, my D received financial aid award mid-March.

Thanks for the congrats everyone. Good luck to everyone in there decisions. I’m so excited to get down to New Orleans next fall.

is anyone else having as hard a desicion as i am. i just dont really know what to do. Tulane, American, or Vandy? suggestions?

^^My son is waiting to hear from Vandy so may be in a similar situation. For him and my wife and I the city of New Orleans has steadily risen in importance in his decision making. Yesterday he was saying that he might choose NOLA over all his reach schools. Let us know what happens and what you are thinking.

yessss. a terrible time haha. I’m applying to Vanderbilt too! but regular. So i’ll think about that later. But as far as American goes, I really hated it when I visited it. Have you been there?

RuskiBear - I read your other posts (not too hard since there weren’t too many, whew!) and I think you have a very complicated decision, but one that only has good outcomes.

Whether or not DC is the best place because you want to go into foreign relations/diplomacy is highly debatable. You didn’t say if you especially had an interest in a certain part of the world, but judging by your screen name I am guessing Russia. If that is true, then look for the school that has the best course selections and faculty in the language, history, and culture of that country. If you had said Latin America I would have said Tulane for sure, since they are considered one of the very strongest programs in Latin American studies. You get the idea. To be successful in the long run won’t so much be a matter of going to an undergraduate institution in DC as in being very knowledgable about the country you want to be involved with, among many other things.

You also say you want to balance this with a school where you will have fun. Absolutely, this is important. This requires visiting each school for a couple of days and staying overnight with a student. Between that and attending some classes and talking with some professors in the areas you are most interested, you should get a good idea which school has the best feel for you. This is especially important because many students change their minds about their major in the first couple of years at college, often more than once. I know you don’t think now that you will change your mind, but since the rate this occurs is about 70%, at least allow for the possibility. And if you do change majors, then being in DC might mean even less to you, or putting it more directly, it becomes even more important that you are somewhere you really like.

haha thanks a lot fallen chemist and everything you’ve said is spot on. I haven’t been to American yet, but will be visiting soon. I love D.C. and when I started I thought that was enough. As far as future plans, I pretty sure that I will be doing something poli sci, I know it can change but I don’t think it’ll be radically different; probably something in the sciences or most likely business so that’s pretty easy. As far as Russian being important, I’m fluent but need to polish my reading/writing so all of these schools have that basic much. And I’m looking to add Chinese or Spanish, that’ll depend on the school. Obviously at Tulane I’d look more into Spanish, at other schools Chinese. I have talked to the Russian professor at Tulane and he basically said that the main reason to go there is New Orleans. If you love it, dont look anywhere else. If its eh, then look elsewhere. I do like it a ton, but then again I’m scared it could be too much and I won’t be able to control myself.

As of now, Tulane has kind of shot up my list, because it’s the fun of Vandy with the resources of American (I especially like that semester at American program) But within the next couple monthes, things will really clear up I hope. I’ll keep y’all updated.

Thanks alot!
