Accepted!

I got in with 20K renewable scholarship!

I got the 15k annual scholarship

Where did you see the scholarship? Did it come the same day or did you hear by mail?

collegesgirl - You only get informed about the scholarship by mail. It is never posted online.

I got in with 22K YAY!

Scores 3.4 GPA at small private school
2210 sats
good ecs etc.

Just wondering, did most people who got 22K not get honors invites, I thought that was kind of strange.

Hi verypsyched - Congrats! That’s a really nice award.

As far as the Honors Program invitations, it seems to be a very mixed bag with the people that received the Distinguished Scholars Award (22K). I think in your case it is probably the 3.4 and the lack of AP courses that hurt your chances. May not be fair since you say your school didn’t offer a lot of AP’s, but that is what they have to go on in making HP invites. You can earn your way in though.

One of my friends who has a 2010 SAT also got 22k scholarships…

It is not based on one factor. They take test scores, GPA, class rank (if known), AP courses (in other words strength of schedule), ECs and recs to make a decision.

Does the honor invite come in the same envelope as acceptance, aid, etc.?

^^ Unless something has changed, the honors invite and scholarship come with the letter of admission. Good luck, everyone! DS just arrived home for winter break (horrible weather delayed their drive by many hours). The fridge is stocked and being raided as I type!

Hope his car wasn’t flooded! We’re having street flooding until Tuesday night down here in New Orleans.

I am also waiting for my ED from Vandy. If that doesn’t work out, Tulane is really a top choice. hard to give up 22K and Honors program. Vandy should come in the next few days and then I will know for sure!!

We were anxiously awaiting a decison after such a long wait and finally the verdict was that the file was (still) pending review and a decision would be made in a few weeks or by April 1st at the latest!!

How is it possible that it now changed from Dec. 15th to April 1st? It did not say deferred and if it were deferred we wouldn’t hear in a few weeks and it is clearly EA. I don’t know if any of this is making sense because I can’t wrap my head around it but if anyone else has this status or can explain whats going on that would be greatly appreciated. My daughter is very upset as you can imagine. Obv. I will contact admissions and the counselor as well, thank everyone . . . . .

same thing happened to me except I know that they sent my letter out last thursday so I will wait until I see what the letter says (accepted/deferred) to speculate… my feeling is they don’t have the time to individuals change everyones status online (even though its something they promise) just call the office and I’m sure they can help you

newyorkmom22: If this helps any: my daughter applied SCEA and it took forever to get a decision…numerous calls/emails to adcom, she was finally told she was deferred. She also hadn’t received a formal letter and that finally came 2-3 weeks later. Her status still showed decision pending, etc. etc. Dec. 15th the latest. She just checked this morning and it changed to the April 1st message - which for her makes all the sense in the world since she knows she was deferred. It is very frustrating, and as you’ve said in previous posts, trying to concentrate on things we can control. And btw, just because my daughter was deferred and had the previous messages does not mean that your daughter was deferred - she could very well be accepted and just hasn’t heard yet. I hope for that for her!

Well it certainly sounds as though she was deferred given your experiences which will be extremely upsetting and unexpected since my older daughter went with basically identical stats. Getting deferred which understandably happens is hard enough but my daughter has been to Tulane so many times over the years to visit her sister and New Orleans had become such a big part of our lives that this one will be a difficult one to process.

for those of you who have been accepted in the past two days via mail what is your status online at gibson? does it say accepted?

Son got $20,000 Sholarship Founders
GPA 3.6
SAT 1940
4 AP, 7 Honors (all considered among the harder ones)…AP Economics, AP Statistics, AP Calculus, AP Computers, Honors Physics/Pre-Calc/Biology/Chemistry/Geometry etc.

Tons of EC’s …Math League Competitions vs. Other High Schools, Business Leaders of Tomorrow, 18 additional courses at religious high school, Caravan for Hurricane Katrina, Johns Hopkins Award for Center for Talented Youth, Already started his own business and he is interested in the Entrepreneurial Program, etc. etc.

Legacy…sister goes there - Dean’s List every year.
I’m a Pelican Parent

I’m sure the last two points (Legacy and Pelican Parent) were the most influential.

newyorkmom22: I should have also mentioned that my daughter was a borderline case as far as stats go…my intention was not to make you think your daughter will be deferred as well, just to give some feedback on a real experience. Meanwhile, I have not heard of anyone who has been flat-out denied…

No, it’s fine, I really appreciate you sharing your experience and at this point and after thinking it thru I do believe she was deferred. I don’t believe it was justified given her stats and the fact that her sister attended but I know the process is not always equitable -it just stinks when you are on the wrong side of that piece.
