Accepted!

123college - I saw your post from back in August that your SAT/ACT scores were not so great. Did you ever retake? If not then that is definitely what is keep you from honors program and more merit money. Actually 20K is pretty good if those were your final scores. You have excellent grades and lots of positives. And idad is right of course. Once you are there you can still take honors courses anyway and you can get into the honors program by getting a 3.6 your freshman year. So chin up! I would say the glass way more than half full for you.

“only 20K”???

doesn’t that make Tulane equal/less than most OOS publics?..that’s great IMO…

20K is indeed a nice award. If you research other schools, like Wake Forest for instance, you will see that most of them don’t give much merit aid at all. My d got $15K and we are very grateful. I believe with the ever increasing number of applicants every year (and ever increasing stats of these applicants), someone who may have received the max two or three years ago may only receive the minimum, or perhaps even no $$. A good friend of ours had a daughter who was accepted to Tulane 3 years ago (decided to stick closer to home) and was offered the max. Her grades/SATs were a little lower than my d’s. But, like I said, every year Tulane receives a greater number and stronger applications than the year before, so the competition is greater. We are just happy that our daughter will be able to attend such an incredible school like Tulane. She is an excellent student, but after reading these boards, I realize that there are some INCREDIBLY SMART kids out there!!

Got my acceptance letter Monday and the Academic Achievement Scholarship. For anyone wondering about your application or stats, here are some of mine

ACT Comp: 28

Not to gloat or to show off , but to give any prospective students/those in application process/or waiting some form of assurance.

wow did not mean to say “only 20K”, im stoked on that, just bummed on not honors

Claire - congrats on the acceptance AND the scholarship! Also, kudos for your outstanding achievements as a student so far, very impressive. Who knows why some really great, intelligent students don’t do as well on the SATs and/or ACTs as the rest of their record would predict. Now that you are in it hardly matters, does it. Where does Tulane fit on your preference list?

Haha, applied EA and still no word…

Congrats to everyone who’s gotten in so far!!

Logged onto the site tonight to see if they were still missing any of his stuff and saw:

Undergraduate Admissions (2010 Fall)
Congratulations!
You have been admitted, and we welcome you to the Tulane family. You will soon receive a formal admission letter and invitations to special programs for admitted students. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit the Admitted Students section of our website.

He’d applied RD with the Personal Application they sent to him via email and I thought we wouldn’t hear until April 1st. I can’t tell what’s up with financial aid because I get a server error message when I click the “My Financial Aid” link, but that’s okay. After his rejection from Rice ED, this is sweet! I hope I can get to sleep tonight!

Stats:
GPA UW 3.6
GPA W 3.8
SAT1 2290 (800R/780M/710W)
ACT Composite 33

anonymityyy - You should have heard by now if you applied EA. Something went wrong like they accidentally put you in the RD stack or they created two files for you by mistake and so they both look incomplete. Or something else, but you should call your adcon at Tulane and see what’s up.

AVHS Dad - wow, that’s great! I bet he is excited too.

Now I’m worried (wife and son aren’t up yet). I tried logging in again this morning to check financial aid status, and Application Status now shows a crazy error message. NOOOOOOOOoooooooo!!!

Okay, refreshing still got the error message, but logging out and logging back in gave us back the Congratulations message. PHEW!!!
But now My Finanical Aid says “Sorry, you are not authorised to access Financial Aid information at this time.” I guess they’re having server problems…

Fallenchemist: He’s applied to quite a few schools and would be happy to get into any of them. Tulane is MY #1 choice for him, DW’s #1 is a reach and DS’s #1 is a high reach. We’re planning a round of visits over spring break, Tulane is now first on the list (and his first acceptance!!!). By the way, none of us have been to New Orleans and I have to say it’s the one city in the world I most want to visit. Thank you Tulane!!!

AVHS, that’s the same msg ds receives. I take it to mean that his financial aid hasn’t been set (we just did the FAFSA today). Financial aid is separate from merit aid. He has rcv’d the Founders Scholarship via letter, but that isn’t reflected either. The most recent year listed is 2009-2010.

AVHS Dad - always nice to have that first one in the pocket, especially if it is at least towards the top of the list. Feel free to PM me if you need advice on hotels, restaurants, etc.

I started to say “11:30 and not up???” But that is 8:30 for you, so that wouldn’t make sense. So I can only say…8:30 and not up??? Yeesh. LOL

Youdon’tsay - They never reflect merit aid online, that only comes via letter. Well, until you start paying the bills. Then of course they show the merit as a deduction on your statement.

Fallenchemist: Hey, cut me some slack! I get up at 4AM during the week, and I didn’t log onto the site last night until almost midnight. I actually woke up at 5 this morning and just laid there thinking “he was accetpted at Tulane…he was accepted at Tulane…”.
I’ll take you up on that hotel and restaruant advice, as well as your personal recommendation for a jazz club or two!

Youdon’tsay & Fallenchemist: Thanks for the info on merit aid. We’ll just wait for the package. Waiting will be so much easier with Tulane “in the pocket”. I’m still very suprised, and happy, we heard so soon!

I’m really pleased with Tulane’s response time as well. I applied toward the end of December and saw my acceptance online yesterday (it may have been posted earlier, I had not been checking regularly).
This is just such a relief that I’m into somewhere as good as Tulane. =]

illinoisgirl324: I agree completely. I’m really surprised we found out the same day as the RD application deadline. Now do they send those packages out overnight or regular mail, lol!

regular mail, I’m afraid.

With the acceptance in hand, we can live with regular mail!

Tulane and The Saints Perfect Together.Go Saints!!!.P.S. Drew Brees lives right off campus

so…When is move-in day?

For freshmen Saturday August 21.
