We just got the envelope with the scholarship offer: $22,000. We posted on this thread - Post #13 - when my son was accepted last week. We’re extremely happy. And happy for everyone else who has been sharing in this.

RHannah - Wonderful! Love your enthusiasm! Please let us know if you get a scholarship offer. I think you have a very decent shot; I saw on your McGill thread you have 5 AP’s so that is pretty stong. Don’t know about your EC’s and recs though.

For what it is worth, my D and I visited McGill, because she also had many years of French and of course it has a strong reputation. Have you visited there yet? If you have, then you have your own impressions. She just fell in love with Montreal, but then was very disapppointed when McGill wasn’t what she was hoping. It is so very urban. Other than the park across from campus there is no grass, it is definitely a concrete university. It was also larger than she thought in terms of class sizes, with a lot of the classes in the first two years having hundreds of students. Definitely not trying to dissuade you, you might not care about these things. I just thought it was worth mentioning in case you have not been there for yourself yet. Montreal is a really wonderful city, no question.

LOL. I get an email saying “Great news from Tulane”, thinking it’s an acceptance, and inside is another message telling me to apply.

thank you fallenchemist, and i am taking a trip in january to McGill so i can get a better feel for it. it is definitely very different than the other colleges i’m applying to so i’m not sure if i’ll like it better than tulane haha. but i will let you know as soon as i find out about scholarships!

nervoussenior: i sent in my stuff a day before you and im going through the same thing! I haven’t called about my transcript not being received yet bc my HS sent an email saying not to worry…I guess I’ll have to keep waiting too :(

congrats to everyone else!

arigold: Sometime between 4:00 and 7:00 this evening (11/23) my application status changed to complete! Check your own status; you might have the same result. I’m excited! It’s now the moment (or few week period) of truth! Hahaha. Fingers crossed!

RHannah-
Checking out McGill in the dead of winter is a very smart thing. Many students forget that the bulk of their school year will be in the winter months, and need to be prepared for the weather. That said, you will also be not far from good ski resorts in Canada, should that be your desire (and if you have free time on the weekends). I went to Mt. Tremblant with college friends during a winter break my jr year of college. It was a blast. But being bundled up in heavy clothes and trudging to class in snow and at times bitter cold was not always fun. Keep us posted!

nervoussenior you were right!! I just checked and my app was complete…now more waiting!

i applied oct.17 and i’m still in the dark. i know that my application is completed though. is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Hi Tobias - I saw your stats on the Ga State post, and it looks like you should get an offer, I think. While your GPA is a bit low, that is offset (IMO) by the very strong schedule of AP’s. Your ACT of 30 is good, right in Tulane’s midrange. Being Haitian has to help. So I think the delay probably doesn’t mean too much. Good luck!

They have all my file except Guidance Counselor…the HS is very slow and takes weeks. 1 person covers like 400 people. Do you know if you have good stats they could do it with another teacher recommendation?

collegesgirl- I’m also having that problem. It’s mandated that my school’s guidance department write recommendations for all students. My counselor only has approximately 50 students to take care of, but as of last week, she informed me that my letter was not written yet. I’m at the beginning of her list of students, alphabetically, so if my letter hasn’t been written, no other letters have been written either. From the counselor: “It’s okay, because they don’t really read that stuff and I can always send it later.” WHAT?!

Ugh. Is the counselor rec. necessary for acceptance?

I checked the website this morning. I got accepted!!!

Just checked… I’m in! And very excited!

congrats bigwill and cottoncandy!!

Bigwill and Cottoncandy, would you mind telling me what date your online status said complete?

Nearing 3 Weeks, and I’m getting a bit nervous

Mine showed complete about 2 weeks ago, I believe. But I called Admissions because my twin (who submitted app about a week after me) had already heard back so I was worried about missing something. Turns out that I hadn’t applied “Early”, but they moved my file and I heard back within a day. Did you apply Regular or Early? If it’s the former, you may have to wait until middle or late December according to the woman I spoke with.

can those who were recently accepted post stats when they get a chance.? will help others…( and avoid me from stalking their previous posts…lol)

^^Here are my son’s stats. He was accepted with a $22,000 scholarship.

SAT Test:

CR 680
Math 760
Writing 740
Total 2180

Subject Tests:

Math 2 740
US History 790
Spanish 740

AP Exams

Spanish 4
English Comp 5

National Merit SF - 234

GPA - High 90s - This is tough to figure out since we have no idea how it converts to a 4.0 scale. But it’s steadily rising, and over 95 UW for his junior year.

He’s taken the toughest schedule that the school offers. School policy is maximum of two APs junior and senior year. He took two last year and three this year.

Class Rank: Unknown. His school refuses to rank students.

ECs: Excellent

Recommendations: We haven’t read them but his teachers rave about him. Open school night was always embarrassing for us to attend. So we expect excellent references from the GC and teachers.

Essays: According to independent judges, they are excellent.

School Reputation: Excellent.

GL to everyone. Maybe we’ll see you in the French Quarter soon.

Hi. I’m new to this website but I have recently been accepted to Tulane EA and offered a $15,000 Academic Achievement Scholarship.

rodney, my stats are…
GPA- 3.9 unweighted
SAT- 1920 (570CR, 690M, 660W)
SAT II- 600 Math I, 670 Biology
Rank- 2/82
E.C.'s- Varsity Soccer-Captain, State Championship Ski Team, Track, Key Club President, National Honor Society Treasurer, NHS Executive State Board Secretary, Athletic Club, Wellness Club, Travel Club, Prom Committee, Yearbook Committee, and a few others that wouldn’t fit on the application Tulane gave me.

I am also from Northern Maine and that’s what I wrote my essay about, so that might have helped in my admission.
Good luck! I’m sure you’ll get in.
