Accepted!

accepted

4.0 W, 3.65ish UW.
620 M, 630 V, 650 W

not the best stats but good enough to get in i suppose :)

I know everyone’s expectations are high, but those are pretty good stats. Solid A- UW GPA, and your SAT scores still fall in the middle 50% range for Tulane. Congrats on your acceptance.

i got in :)

I just checked online today and was accepted!!! And it only took them six days after my application was finally complete! Green wave all the way~

Love to hear that enthusiasm!! We need to start a movement to get rid of the pelican and bring back the “Fighting Wave”, also known as “Gumby”. Maybe I should start a thread…

My son just found out he was accepted. SAT’s in the midange for accepted students (1940), GPA OK, but challenging classes…lots of AP’s/honors.

Tons of real good EC’s, but out out of these, I think some differentiators at decision time may have have been:

He sent in first marking period grades (straight A’s, one B) to supplement his transcript
Older sister is a senior at Tulane, very involved, and on Dean’s list
Son wrote his essay about already having invested his own money he worked for and has launched his own business (he is interested in the entrepreneurial major)
He already did volunteer work several years ago for the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort

This is definitely one of two, perhaps three schools he is interested in. Don’t even need fallenchemist to plug this as “bigsister” will surely take on that role.

lol, ok. Congrats!

Must. Fight. Urge. Not. To. Check. Every five minutes.

Am now totally stressing. Channinggj heard back so quickly? Don’t know when son’s application status changed to “rendering;” he only started checking around the first of the month. I know EAs are all supposed to know by Dec. 15…

An acceptance would so ease the stress in this house right now! ;o)

UVaHoo - I think the same advice works for parents as it does the kids…InHale, Exhale…Inhale, Exhale…repeat as needed. It will all be over all too soon.

I’m starting to worry as we are getting really close to December 15th which is supposedly the early action deadline for hearing back… Do you think most of us who are still waiting might be denied come the 15th? I’m hoping there is just a backlog right now and that I’m still on track…;

I truly think you cannot read too much into the delay. I see some kids with really good stats, sure admits, that have not heard yet. I would love to be able to say 100% there is no tie between not hearing and your chances, but I can’t say that either. It would just make sense if they were unsure that they would wait to see what the overall pool looks like up to the last minute. But that just makes sense to me, I have no idea what really is going on in detail. Again, I only know that a delay does not absolutely mean anything, because if you saw the stats on these kids I am talking about you would agree that they will get an offer of admission. So at least some of it that they are backed up.

Just try to distract yourself as much as possible. The news will come soon.

fallenchemist: Just read you comment on the February weather. A little rain doesn’t bother us (from the PNW). We also have snorkeling gear, if we have to tour too far below sea level. Good weather would be nice. S2 is a jazz drummer and though not wanting to major in music he is still looking to play. Opportunities to play will be a big part of his decision. He is spoiled. He has played at Lincoln Center, and with a range of jazz greats such as Wynton Marsalis. He is looking for jazz immersion in N.O. Still have not received “official” letter, but not concerned at all.

accepted… and so excited!! you all should join the facebook page!

heyyy accepted! UW 3.6, W 4.0, 33 ACT. Tulane’s not my first choice but this is still very nice to know : )

idad - He would have multiple opportunities to play in NOLA and at Tulane. The Marsalis family is still very active there BTW. There are many ways for him to get involved in the music scene. Just a couple of examples: the director of the LBC (the university center) is a sax player and was very active locally when I was there. He directed a group I (trumpet player) was in while there and I could see about whether he would be willing to talk to you and your son when you visit to give you an idea of the opportunities. I am not sure how active he still is. Other example is that Jesse McBride, a young keyboardist, was an instructor at a “fun brain camp” both my kids went to in the summers and last year was an adjunct instructor at Tulane. If he happened to be in town when you were there I am sure he would be very happy to talk to your son about the same thing. Again, I would be willing to try and set that up for you. Jesse especially would be a great contact for him. Let me know by PM if you want to pursue that.

Ahhh the waiting is killing me. Going to hit 5 weeks of rendering a decision this weekend.
I called and they said results will be out by the 15th. :|

I just got accepted with a 15,000/yr. scholarship woot woot! It was my first, so here’s hoping there’s more to come!!

from everyones experience what does it mean when the status changes to (it just changed about 10 minutes ago)

Your decision is pending review We will try to get you a decision in just a few weeks, but you will receive a decision by December 15th at the latest.

from the complete application status?

Hello! Wow. I’m from the climatic paradise of Bay Area, CA, and I had never heard about Tulane until I received a flyer over the summer. My parents chucked most of the letters from “random” colleges, but they decided to give a shot at Tulane for its decent ranking, med background, and a possible merit scholarship. Success! So, adding to the list of acceptees… (and congrats to everyone so far!)

GPA: UW 3.97, W 4.6
SAT I: 2280 (M: 740, CR: 780, W:780)-first sitting
SAT II: Math IIC-800, Chem-780, Bio-770, Chinese-790, Spanish-730
APs: Stats-5, Bio-5, Spanish Language-4, Next May-Calc BC, Physics, Chem, English
Curriculum: APs/Honors aplenty! humbug.
ECs: here and there, volunteering, clubs, sports, music, summer internship
School: large public, highly competitive

Received Presidential Scholarship 25K/year, Honors Program acceptance

It’s my first acceptance, and what a boost in morale! I’m glad my parents convinced me to apply here even though it isn’t a relatively well-known college (at least in my area of CA), and judging from the other threads and comments, Tulane sounds like really attractive school. It’s still a bit early now, but I’m not sure how I should compare Tulane with UC Berkeley/UCLA/UCSD, even with the merit aid and private school education. I’m sure a visit next spring would help, but any advice? Thanks in advance!

I can respond in some detail later about the comparisons (because they are so different and I cannot do it right now) but I wanted to say that with your stats you would have a chance at the Dean’s Honor Scholarship. Look it up. It is full tuition if you win it. However the deadline is December 15!! So not sure there is time for you to take a crack at it, but you do have the weekend.

I am traveling on business right now but I will give you my thoughts in a day or two. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the DHS.
