Can any students comment on the best freshman dorms and best frats?

Did all of you potential Mustangs get a Christmas Card from President and Mrs. Turner?

The attention to detail by SMU is impressive!

I’m not sure if we’re allowed to mention other websites on College Confidential, but I’m going to, and will leave it to the administrator to determine if that’s ok or not. I suggest going to collegedata.com and viewing the feature called Admissions Tracker. It gives pretty detailed profiles of lots of students who are interested in any given college. It’s a pretty fantastic feature that allows you to enter your own profile, with as much or as little detail as you wish to reveal, and compare yourself to others interested in a college. SMU has quite a number of students listed, and I encourage everyone here to add theirs.
Let me add that you can elect to view the students as either a grid of their stats, or as points on a scattergram. To get the best idea of admission results, click on the 2013 tab because that year has the full admissions cycle, whereas the current year (2014) is just getting started.

Yes, got the Christmas card. Very impressive. Love SMU!

Got the Xmas card BEFORE we got the acceptance packet. That left us plenty confused! It all worked out in the end, and it definitely is a nice touch.

I appreciate the feedback. This school does seem to reach out. What an exciting time!

Hey thanks everyone here on CC for going over to collegedata.com and entering your profiles in the Admissions Tracker. The more people who do it will make the scattergrams that much more informative, and will be a good indication for people looking at the various colleges just what their chances are. Supreme congrats to oddmonkey for the bountiful scholarships you’ve been awarded-- way to go!!

Does SMU expect us to submit transcripts again (those of us who have already been accepted via early action) in order to look at our first semester grades? I thought they would, but I’ve read everything I could in the acceptance packet and it’s just not mentioned. Virtually every other college my D is applying to requires the mid-year transcript, so I’m thinking SMU might. Does anyone know for sure?

^^ I have also looked for any reference to mid-year grade reports and have come up with nothing. I wouldn’t be surprised if they sent something later to be returned to admissions. I would think they might want this, particularly for awards like the President’s Scholarship. By they way, my daughter received a letter from Admissions today stating that her application was “nominated for review by the SMU Scholarship Committee” and that notifications are scheduled to BEGIN no later than mid-January. We only live about 100 miles from Dallas, so those of you on the West coast may not receive this until later in the week. Good luck!

dtex50-- we got the same letter yesterday (west coast) and I posted the news on the “SMU Merit Aid” thread about one hour before you posted here on the “Admissions” thread. Good luck to your D.

I got accepted into that Cox BBA Scholars thing. Looks really cool. Anyone else get accepted to that?

Aws, when did you apply?

Congratulations! My son is a freshman at SMU this year and a BBA Scholar. You take a special lecture class your first semester where they have business executives in the Dallas area come and talk with the class. My son is double majoring in Business and General Music with a piano emphasis. He loves SMU and we do too.
