I did the Priority App and mine was due Dec 1…

I’ve received similar offers for priority apps from other schools that have pushed back the deadlines repeatedly (some are even Mar 1), but my guess would be the earlier you get your app in, the more you’ll know about honors apps and the better scholarships you’ll be considered for. Sorry about the awful construction of that sentence.

I agree, but in this case the words “First Priority” and “priority scholarship consideration” seem unambiguous. You would think if a state school was aggressively recruiting “Ivy caliber” students, and pushing back deadlines to that end, then ALL doors would still be open should one of these students apply …

It’s an encouragement for students to apply; unfortunately, we can’t hold the doors open to some of our most selective honors programs too long. SfM, since you mentioned it, gets over a thousand applicants and only takes a class of about seven; priority goes to those students who have applied early.

It doesn’t lock students out of scholarships or admission to any particular majors, but the specific honors programs do stick to their deadlines.

Hey Chris, quick question:
I got an email congratulating me on my acceptance and about this Visit-A-Class program at SBU for accepted students…but I haven’t actually gotten an acceptance letter yet. Should I call the admissions office, or is just pestering them?

" … but the specific honors programs do stick to their deadlines. "

Ok, but shouldn’t that be made VERY clear when soliciting applications from top students? To most of the students you are targeting, this information about the honors programs deadlines would be a “deal breaker” … they would NOT apply … to not make this clear is at best UNETHICAL … at worst ILLEGAL …

My son applied for Fall 2010, and he just got a For New Students tab, and when he clicked on New Student Preferences, it said Welcome to Stony Brook with his name. There doesn’t seem to be a separate tab to make a deposit, although under Student Preferences there’s an item that says “Tuition Deposit/Orient Fee.”

Under Student Admission, it still says “decision shortly,” but a lot of the detail has been eliminated. It has an abbreviated look compared to the way it looked before the New Student tab appeared.

Directly under For New Students there is a Student Financial Services/Account Information Tab, but when he clicks on it it’s blank. He doesn’t remember if that was there before, but he’s not obsessive about these things. I am, which is why I’m the one posting.

D received her acceptance letter in the mail today…but she knew she was accepted for a couple of days now due to checking her Solar account…Good luck to everyone still waiting!

How do the Honor College admission decisions work? Do they send them all out at once or at different intervals, like Stony Brook does with its regular pool?

All the Honors College and WISE decisions have been mailed; they went out last week. University Scholars notifications and scholarship decisions should be mailed/posted this week.

Do you send rejections the same time as acceptance letters for Honors College/WISE? I haven’t received anything yet but a few of my friends have received acceptance letters.

gah! 3 weeks ago stony brook sent me an email saying they didn’t have my transcript - i applied on december 31st, they lost it. now i’m waiting for notification - thinking my chances for the honors college are mussed because of the university bureaucracy… :(

I haven’t gotten anything in the mail or email from SBU…does this mean I didn’t get into the university? I have a 2070 on my SATs (1380 CR+M) so I wasn’t exactly expecting a rejection…

I still haven’t heard either. Was told by Chris a few weeks ago to call. I did just that, and was told they’d be making a decision in the following week or so. It’s now 3 weeks later.

I don’t want to be a hassle and call again, but this is getting to be a bit absurd. Even if I’ve been rejected, I still expect to be informed of this in a timely fashion, especially given that I applied in late September.

On that note, is it the policy of Stony Brook to send out rejections last?

I think that if you have not heard yet it has to be rejection. The honor college decision are being mailed out so they must know who has gotten in, I think eveyone will get their letters this week and most being rejection and I have still not gotten my letter yet ethier.

Why do you guys act enthusiastic? Pardon my arrogance, as I am still a freshman in HS, but isn’t Stony Brook not even a Top Tier 1 school? Even if it is its ranked like 40th or 50th…how is that considered good? Again please do not take affront…
