My D had an unusual situation in that after transferring to a different MT school she found out that a girl she graduated HS with had also transferred to the same school. They are actually roommates and although they do compete for the same roles they help each other out. They are very different in strengths and appearance but both are sopranos. This experience teaches them how to compartmentalize their lives (work is work, friendship is friendship) and to not take casting to personally. After all, it’s all about the directors “vision” not necessarily who is better whether they get cast. I think it’s actually been a great learning experience for both girls.

As many have said, it is fine that two applicants from the same high school apply and are often accepted into the same program. I will take this a step further. It is not at all unusual that programs develop an appreciation for the level of training, discipline, talent, work ethic, and attitude at a particular high school and have an unofficial “feeder school” relationship with said school.
