Accepting a place...

Hi,
I have been accepted to Princeton and have to reply to them by May 1st. Obviously I am quite over the moon. However, my problem is that I also have a conditional offer from Oxford, which would require me to get certain grades from my IB exams in May. If I get those grades they will accept me, if not they won't accept me. The thing is that I will get to know my results only in the summer, long after I have sent my reply to Princeton.
Basically, my question is whether I can accept my place at Princeton and still decline it in the summer if I get into Oxford. I really hope something like this is possible because I don't want to reject Princeton and later on fail to get into Oxford.

I'm sure you aren't the only one admitted to an American college to face this scenario. I'm sure you may lose your Princeton deposit but there should be no further ramifications. Best of luck to you.

Yes, you can, but you will lose your deposit at Princeton. It's the same as if you had been put on a waitlist.

Congratulations and good luck!

Thanks for your replies.
