I have 2 schools I applied to in Texas, one was my backup and one is my dream school. Yesterday I got accepted into my backup school and I had a teacher tell me to accept even though I haven’t heard back from my dream school. I did not put down a deposit, I only clicked the accept button. I did some research and found two different things:
- It’s fine since I didn’t put any money down. The other school can’t find out and it won’t matter, I can just send the school I accepted an email later.
- This is bad because my dream school can find out I accepted another school and not accept me for it.
Please help!!!
I don’t think they have investigators that are gonna crack the mystery. A lot of decisions still haven’t been posted. Under review means your app is still under review. It doesn’t mean denied. Not even close. So dont feel like you aren’t gonna get into TAMU.
Whether or not you put a deposit is immaterial. You should NOT have accepted a spot unless you intend to go to that school (in fact, some schools will allow/encourage you to make a (mostly refundable) housing deposit – even before committing to that school.
Why did you feel compelled to accept an offer to your back-up school before hearing from your dream school? You have until May 1st to accept any and all offers.
I personally know of someone that had applied and was accepted ED II to an LAC and did not immediately withdraw her applications from the other colleges to which she also applied. Long story short, after she had been admitted ED to School #1, was contacted by one of the schools and told that they were aware that she was admitted through an ED program to another school and that if she did not withdraw her application, admissions at School #2 would contact admissions at the ED school to let them know that the applicant was in violation of an ED agreement…
I would email the back-up school and tell them that you prematurely accepted their offer of admission and that you still need more time to consider your options.
@LoveTheBard This is all new to me. I’m a sophomore at a state college right now and was told by a professor it would be smart to accept just in case TAMU did not accept me. I regret my decision of accepting and wish I would’ve called the school to see how long I had to accept. I’m not sure if the situation is different for me from the girl you know because I’m a transfer not ED, but at this point I can only hope! I’ve had friends tell me they did the same thing and it worked out. Thank you for your feedback!
@TAMUaggie2214 yeah that’s what everyone I’ve talked to about this has said, that they won’t background check every detail about me, they don’t have the time. Waiting for my transcripts to be processed and hopefully I’ll be admitted! I’ve been worried I made a really big mistake by accepting another school but i learned from it and can only hope it won’t affect my admissions.
Trying to trick the system can come back and bite you. There is no need for you to play these games. You have until May 1st, this acceptance is not going to expire.
@CupCakeMuffins I wasn’t trying to trick the system, I listened to a professor and unfortunately just didn’t know better. Is the date May 1st for transfers?
My apologies. I’m not sure about the deadline for transfers.
