Accepting an offer of admission

The scenario:

I've received an offer from, let's call it my no. 2 choice, and I'm still waiting on my no. 1 choice to make their decision.

The May 1st deadline to accept my offer to no. 2 is fast approaching, so should I accept their offer now, and wait on my no. 1? If I do get accepted into my no. 1 choice, how would I go about redacting, so to speak, my decision to accept the no. 2 offer?

You say yes to number2 if number one comes through you send number 2 an email or fax saying you got off the waitlist or the other school finally made a decisio. Very likely you will lose deposit at school2

Sea’s got it. I don’t know why choice 1 is taking so long, but better safe than sorry. You’ll probably lose however much their enrollment deposit is, which in a lot of cases is a decent chunk of change.
