<p>I was just accepted into UT and I was wondering if I accept my offer of admission right now (though I don't know my major yet), will I be bound to attend? I still want to apply to a few other schools and want to weigh my financial options. If it's not binding, what benefit will I have in accepting admission right now?</p>
<p>Why would you accept it now if you don’t have to? Most schools don’t expect this until May 1.
Students are expected to not hold more than one spot. If you accept another one, then you will have to withdraw and lose your deposit. Why do this now if you don’t have to?
Occasionally a student can accept a place in their best choice school before May, and then if he/she gets off the waiting list for the school they like better later in the summer, withdraw. He/she loses the deposit. So accepting your spot many not be binding in the sense that you can’t go somewhere else, but it might be expensive.</p>
<p>It is mostly my mom that keeps asking about it. She thinks I will have a better chance at being accepted into Cockrell (since I don’t have my major yet) if I accept my admission. That’s not true is it?</p>
<p>Accepting the offer of admission to the university does not do anything to your chances of getting into Cockrell.</p>
