I'm going to be at Duke next year and I have a good amount of AP Credits that I can use. I want to use my ap chem, ap calc bc, and ap phys c credits to fulfill some of my premed requirements. I'm planning to take at least one more year of math next year along with organic chem. The problem is that I have heard that a lot of medical schools don't accept AP credits. btw, I'm going to try to shoot for Harvard, JHU, Penn, Columbia, WashU, etc. for medical school. I just want to know if I wont get in any trouble later on for not fulfilling a med school's curriculum requirements? Also do med schools put weight on languages because I'm also planning to use the credit I got in Spanish Language?

If you fail to fulfill their requirements, schools will be very, very unhappy. That's why they're called requirements.

Hmm... I APed out of Intro Bio.

However, I am a biological engineer and will end up taking 3-4 upper level bio courses (most likely biochemistry/microbio/virology/parasitology).

Will I still have to retake bio if I've taken more advanced bio courses.

I've also taken introduction to biomedical engineering which was also very bio oriented...

Higher level classes always count.

I'm planning to major in bio also, but I'm not sure about how may more physics and chem courses I'm going to take. I will definitely do higher level math. If I take a course like biochem, would medical schools see that as high level chem? and if I take some biophysics courses, could those be counted as higher level physics? and which of the top medical schools care about take a foreign language in college?

extravaganza:

Biochem and biophysics are not going to satisfy the Gen Chem, Orgo, or Physics requirements.

I was a chem major in college, and Physics I/II, along with calculus, were required as part of the chem major, so the only addition pre-med classes that I took were Bio I/II and a second semester of English. That might be the case with you, too.

my thinking is you can use APs to get rid of all non science/math courses w/o a problem. if you use aps to opt out of a science course, you should only do so if you are taking a higher-level course in that same science.

Just to double check. Do these higher-level bio courses have to have labs associated with them? Does the student need to take more labs if using the AP Bio?

im not taking ap credit in bio, im taking it in calc, chem, and physics. It seems like I will just have to go through general chem and physics again. I just wanted to take the credits so that I could get a few more electives in or possibly a double major.

One year of biology with lab.
