I see that Notre Dame readjusts its financial aid after students receive outside scholarships. I also see that they take it away from the loans in the example they presented. With that being said, if I do not accept the loans and only the grants and university scholarship, does the University take away from those scholarships/grants if I receive outside scholarships?

Basically, what is there complete policy on readjusting financial aid?

This happened my S’s freshman year. In our case, they lowered the loan amount, even though we were not accepting the loan. Therefore, they did not reduce the grants.

We are in a similar same situation. Our our daughter has applied for several private scholarships, and we prefer to decline the offer of a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Should she receive any outside scholarships, we hope that this loan amount is reduced first, even if we decline it, before her ND scholarship.
