Hi,
I am an international transfer student and have been accepted to a few Universities in the US. I have been asked to pay a deposit (100$) for a university I have been accepted to by 1st June. I am still waiting for a few decisions, which may come in June or July. So, I was wondering if its okay to pay the deposit and then tell the university that I won’t be enrolling if I get a favourable decision from the other university (whose decision comes out in July)?
Yes. Make the deposit now at the place that you like best. If you are admitted later on to a place you prefer, you can let them know that your plans have changed.
Hi,
which Universities did you get admitted to? Also which are the ones you’re still waiting for an answer, if you don’t mind?
How was the process of applying? Does every University pay attention to high-school grades from international students that are transfering, or since you’re transfering they mainly take a look at your grades on your current University?
Thanks!
Accepted Universities: UM Twin Cities, UWM, UMD
Still Waiting: UPenn, U Texas Austin, U Washington Seattle, Purdue
Process of applying is simple enough. Just fill the transfer app forms and send your high school and college transcripts. I am transferring into the Junior year so most universities make there decisions based on your college academic performance and other achievements you’ve accomplished in College. If you’re transferring into the sophomore year they will have a look at you high school marks too.
Are you sure about paying the enrollment fee(deposit) because I heard that the colleges may revoke their offers if you do something like this.
Transfer admissions is not like freshman admissions. The acceptances don’t all come at once, and there is no standard commit-by date. It is more like dealing with waiting lists.
If you have several offers that have more-or-less the same acceptance cut-off date, and a bunch of other applications are still pending, then it is perfectly fine to accept the one you like best so far, and pay the deposit. If another offer comes in later that you like better, you can accept that one and pay its deposit. Just be sure to let the first place you had accepted know that your plans have changed, and you won’t be enrolling, so that you don’t get billed for classes and housing there. They will probably keep your deposit.
You can repeat this multiple times as better offers come in, basically up until the first day of classes, if you really want or need to.
Nice! I plan to transfer to UT Austin, what major did you transfer to?
Computer Science
Damn, congratulations! What were your grades at your University like before you transfered?
