This also happened about a month ago, for a day, and then worked fine the next day.
I got an email at 9:45 pm 8/20 indicating that thumper1 can log on to CC, but cannot post any replies.
She asked that I post this info here.
Firefox! I was a lifetime AOL used and I now LOVE Firefox. Thumper1 if you can read this, give it a try. I still use my aol mail but no more AOL browser.
OK…it’s 9:00 in the morning and everything is working FINE. You would think that if it’s a problem with my browser, it would be a consistent issue. The on again…off again…nature of this is what is annoying. Yesterday…worked fine for a period and then didn’t work at all.
vossron, I wonder if Comcast DNS was messed up for the forums yesterday, I had difficulty reaching them via Comcast but was fine w/ATT, Verizon. I thought it was on my end as I had been doing some host redirection to test the San Jose servers, but went for a couple of hours in which no amount of DNS flushing would let me get here by Comcast.
Thumper, are you using the AOL browser or just as your ISP? AOL has always been kind of weird in the way they cache stuff and use multiple IP addresses for a single user session, but usually they are fine with IE or FF browsing.
I sign into AOL and get to CC using an AOL favorite. The “browser” on my machine is IE.
^^^ Roger, that seems a likely explanation. All is fine this morning, just like last time.
I got shut out yesterday about 5:00 pm or so and nothing on CC would load including the CC homepage. I tired AOL, IE and Firefox on two different computers, one hard wired and one wireless and was shut out until this morning. Every other site worked fine, I think it was CC not our individual computers or browsers. Clearly I was bored last night
Same thing with me…I couldn’t POST at all last night…not anywhere. BUT today everything is working FINE. I don’t think it’s just a coincidence that this happened at the same time as the server “work” begin done at CC. I did nothing to change my set up or browser between last night and now…but CC did have some changes!!
AM out of town but still having the problems logging in-- wont post when I use my aol email (tho am on the hotel isp) but got on thru another of my email addresses. And just curious-- I thought when you merged thereads you merged the newer one into the older one. No matter-- just wondered b/c the opposite happened here and I didnt know if it was part of the overall problem…
From mail logs I see that the IP address of emails I received from collegeconfidential.com changed from 209.85.90.84 to 165.193.255.2 just about the time we experienced the day’s outage.
I believe that anyone who “signs” into AOL is using AOL browser and not IE, correct? If you click on IE and surf the web, your browser is IE. If you sign in to AOL and click on a favorite, you are using AOL as your browser. While it s based on IE, it is AOL not IE.
Yes…and I’ve done NOTHING to change my log in to CC method…and yet part of the week I had lots of problems which seem to be gone now.
I guess I’m glad AOL fixed whatever was wrong:)
I think it just takes time for CC’s changes Roger mentioned in #16 to percolate all through the internet (especially DNS updates).
Have had major cc problems today. Not getting anything through AOL at all today and this NOT the aol browser, just email address
Is there a problem with your cue?? This happens periosdically-- that teh email instant notification stops working (and mine stopped 2 days ago). When it “unjams” I then get a million email notifications. Is it likely that this happened again with the relocation of the servers??
