I am currently a sophomore Chemistry student considering a transfer to UNC as a junior and I am wondering how accessible the professors and other faculty are? I attend a small, private university currently and while there are some things that aren't so stellar about my current institution, the accessibility of the faculty is truly second to none! I, like pretty much every other undergrad student in a science major, aspire to go to medical school and I know how important a strong connection with faculty can be, so I would really hate to give that up if I am not going to find something similar at Carolina.

Sorry, for the long wind-up, what I am wondering is whether or not the faculty at UNC are available for questions, subject help, office hours etc.? I know that larger schools tend to struggle in this area so I am hoping that UNC is unique in this category!

All professors have office hours. Obviously its easier to get to know the professor when the class size is small, which is a problem in some departments. UNC is no different from other large schools.

My experience has been pretty good with the Chem dept. For example, my Orgo professor sends out nearly daily his available office hours. That is in addition to his scheduled 30+ hours of extra help sessions (and of course the normal classes). He even takes photos of his students during the first few days to make sure he recognizes you and can greet you personally.

I presume you will be coming in with chem credits and taking 200+ level classes. That alone will decrease the class sizes. Intro Chem classes at UNC-CH weed out quite a few aspiring chem majors.

Ya I am in the process of taking O Chem so I am hoping they accept all of those chem credits. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!
