Accessing Aid Package

So I was recently admitted whoooo! But I can't allow myself to be TRULY happy about it unless I see whether or not UNC is even affordable for me, but alas, my financial aid information is missing, and I remain stuck in emotional limbo.

Some lucky individuals have mysteriously been able to see their fin aid packages (jealous face) but there's some conflicting information; some people say it should be on the same page that the admissions decision is available on, others say you must sign up for an Onyen account in order to see it.

Personal experience: I tried the Onyen method and the internet told me that I wasn't yet eligible to have a Onyen account. I also have no fin aid tab on the admissions page...

I also DIDN'T even get an email from them in like... the last three months. So IDK. SO CONFUSED AND UNC HAS LIKE NOOO INFO ON THEIR PAGE. WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THIS AND WHY ARE THEY DELIBERATELY HIDING MY FINANCIAL AID FROM ME!?

/rant

thoughts?

Only admitted students can do any ONYEN. Now that you’re admitted, you should be able to do it and see your finaid info.

I was accepted first deadline and still dont have an aid package. Its possible they simply dont have one created for you yet

Yesterday I couldn’t create an ONYEN account. Today I could. Still no aid section though. My connectioncarolina center looks the same as it did before besides the admission decision.

I couldn’t create an ONYEN yesterday but could today. When I signed in, it told me that my aid application is still being processed.

As I posted in another thread, they are still working on Fin aid packages and they post them to your account as they are completed. Supposedly they send you an email then you have access to it from your portal (ONYEN) page. My S was accepted ED and we have access to the financial page but since they have not completed his package yet the 2012 link is not active yet. I hope they are not doing them alphabetically since we are at the end of the alphabet! We are also eagerly awaiting the news as to whether we can afford to go or not. Good luck to all!

It’s probably not alphabetical. I got my FinAid on Wednesday and my last name is Walker. =] I also applied ED, I’m OOS, I applied like a week before the ED deadline, and didn’t get my FAFSA in until like late Feb. So they probably aren’t going in any sort of logical order because I’d be at the last of everything. xD

But the package they put together was phenomenal. Although I totally understand how agonizing the phrase “be patient” is in this situation.

noidaho, what kind of aid do they offer- scholarships, loans, grants, etc? Do they tell you what it’s based on? Just wondering. Lots of people, especially RD, not sure if they can go to UNC until they hear about aid.

Well, mine was a mixture of an institutional grant, a federal loan, and work-study that ended up meeting my need. They didn’t say anything like, “We’re meeting all of your need because of so-so,” although I know they don’t make any commitment to meet everyone’s need. But if I got some scholarship, I haven’t received any communication about it, it really does just say “Institutional Grant”.

But I know, price is huge. I got into Michigan and their honors program and was super excited, then I got my financial aid and it was only fed loans (not enough) and work study, so you just have to cross that school out.

Aid should be out way before enrollment deadlines, however. No school would force you to make a decision without showing you what they’re offering.
