I just received an email from Yale NUS asking for an additional, optional supplemental essay. I accidentally checked off NUS, did not know it was in Singapore. Should I contact them and let them know, or just not write the supplement and wait for a decision?

Politeness demands the first course of action

Even I accidentally applied there. Well, I am gonna write the essay and see how it turns out.

The best option for you at this point is to simply send Yale NUS an email that you changed your mind and are not applying to Yale NUS if you don’t wanna say you made a “mistake.”

Either way you can’t get in to Yale NUS without submitting the supplement for Yale NUS and sending scores to them. So you are not in a bad situation, don’t worry.

It’s okay–I left the box checked on accident too. I just emailed Yale NUS very politely asking to withdraw my app, and they fixed it fairly quickly. Just be nice about it!

Wait… It says “I would like to share my Yale application with Yale-NUS College**” I marked yes because I’d like both Yale and Yale NUS to review my application. Did I do this correctly?

^I didnt understand the whole process of that. I checked the box, thinking it couldnt hurt. But Yale-NUS has its own application on the commonapp. So perhaps share means just for looking, and we cant get in?

No, it’s perfectly fine if you clicked Yale-NUS. If you click on the hyperlink when it asks you if you want to apply to Yale-NUS, it says that you are actually applying to Yale-NUS in Singapore (not just sharing or anything like that, you’re actually applying) and you don’t have to fill out any other supplements or anything - the Yale app is good enough. But don’t worry, it clearly says the apps are completely independent and that you applied to Yale-NUS has no bearing on your Yale decision.

So, isn’t there any additional fee for the Yale-NUS application?
Or any extra writing supplement for that matter.

^No, but there’s still a fee to send in your SAT or ACT scores. Once you apply, there’s an optional “Why Yale-NUS” essay you can write, but it’s not necessary for admission, especially if you make it clear why you want to attend Yale-NUS in the (required) interview.

so you have to send your sat scores to both yale and yale nus?

yeah, you need to officially send them in to both if you want to be considered by both schools. (source: http://admissions.yale.edu/faq/sharing-your-yale-application-yale-nus#t281n2605)
