I’m a senior in high school applying to college for next year. A while ago when I was filling out the preliminary information in the MIT application, I selected early action. However I decided to focus my time on another school to apply early action to and I decided I would just apply regular decision to MIT. Unfortunately, I never unchecked the early action box on the MIT application website and the deadline has passed and they downloaded my teachers recommendations already. I never submitted any essays or did much. I only put in a little information about my address and ethnic background. But now I can’t change my admission to regular decision. I am panicked and about to cry. I called MIT but they’re closed today and I already emailed them as well. Do you think they can go in and change it to regular decision if I truly planned on submitting it then?
EA or ED? You can apply to as many schools under EA that you want.
The box I checked a while ago for MIT was EA but I ended up applying EA to another school and didn’t think I would be able to perfect my MIT essays in time so I wanted to wait for regular decision. I’m worried that the MIT website submitted my empty application already to the school and I’m afraid I won’t get a chance to actually apply.
@panickedsnr IMO, no need to panic. Seems like you submitted the part-1 of the app and choose EA as the application cycle. You did not complete the part-2 of the app. Look into the application instructions - they mentioned that if you change the application cycle (EA vs RD) mentioned in part-1; you just have to email the admissions indicating the change. They didn’t mention how soon you have to do that - think you should be fine. Just email them on Monday.
Good luck.
–more info…following is copied from MIT admission site:
Note that your decision plan selection on Part 1 of the MIT Application will be your official choice and any changes to your decision plan after submission of Part 1 will need to be communicated via email to:
(took out the email to avoid any cc policies but its general mit admission email)
Oh, I understand. Yeah, I think you might have to just call them tomorrow and see if they’ll pull it back for you.
Thank you calming my nerves @hs2020dad I’ll call them first thing tomorrow and hopefully they will be understanding. Thank you so much again
Thank you @cshell2 I’ll pray they pull it back!!
Did part 1 of the MIT app actually get submitted? My recollection when DD submitted apps (not MIT) last year through the common app was that there was a submit now button for each application. Is MIT different?
If you didn’t pay the application fee, you didn’t submit it.
@panickedsnr Update???
