Ok so this is going to sound dumb, but I think I did a 2016-2017 Fasfa because apparently the 2017-2018 one won’t be available until October 1st right? I’ll be a senior in high school in a couple weeks so I wouldn’t start college until Fall 2017.
I clicked save and remembered the save key. I didn’t do the electronic sign using your FSA ID so I didn’t click submit.
Also how many college credits to be considered a somphmore in college? I’ve been taking college classes at a community college and will have 36 at the end of this summer. I put 2nd year/somphmore on the fasfa not sure if that was right.
What should I do about this? Do I leave it alone and just wait until October 1st and do the 2017-2018?
I hope @kelsmom will chime in but I would just leave the started FAFSA and not do anything with it.
Yes, if you are starting college in 2017 you would file 2017/18 FAFSA this fall and you would use your parents’ 2015 tax return information (and yours if you worked/had to file a return in 2015).
As far as college credits, if you are a high school student and have taken college credits as dual enrollment before high school graduation then I believe you should select 1rst year/never attended college on the FAFSA.
At your high school they might do a FAFSA info night in the fall, try to attend that with a parent.
And if you have questions there is a help feature on the FAFSA I think and you can call them as well.
You and a parent need a FSA ID as well and you will need bank balances and other asset info as of the date you submit your FAFSA. Tax returns should be filed and processed by now so you should be able to use the IRS retrieval tool in FAFSA for that.
Ok thanks, so I’ll just leave it alone. On the bright side I already went through it once with my mom and older brother and made an FSA ID so it should go smoother next time. I’ll try to give them a call soon just in case.

Don’t worry about that. It makes little difference. Once your credits are rec’d, it just means that you might be offered a large loan.
AND don’t apply to colleges as a sophomore. Apply as a FIRST time freshman because your credits were earned before high school graduation.
I don’t think there is any harm in submitting the wrong FAFSA. You’ll get an EFC and have an idea of how the correct one will be.
