So I thought I had retracted my application for one of my schools, but a week ago, I got the notice from them that I got accepted.

I got in ED for Cornell, and it said that my application could be in jeopardy if I didn't, so I'm kind of scared. Will/Can they find out, and is it a huge deal?

In the confirmation email they sent us, it said “We also remind you that your admission to Cornell during Early Decision is binding. As part of the agreement, you must withdraw any applications you have filed at other colleges or universities.” Its also in the acceptance letter and is written when you filled your applications, you should have been careful enough to have withdrawn all apps. I think you should call admissions and let them know the situation or since that “sending your name to every college” wasn’t true, you could just leave it but I’ll go with the former.

Do not call admissions, they have no way of knowing you got accepted into some other random college. Just tell the college you won’t be attending, simple as that.

Now if you go ahead and submit a deposit to this new college and attend then you will tarnish your high schools reputation, so don’t do that.

Honesty is the best policy, except when it isn’t. You probably should at least talk to your high school guidance counselor about it. As said above, I don’t think there is any way for Cornell to know you were accepted elsewhere. I think the primary reason they want you to immediately withdraw all applications is that once people have options, they might try to back out of ED.

Schools and admissions officers aren’t watching you that carefully. A mistake is a mistake and not a tragedy. Even if Cornell somehow found out about the oversight they aren’t gleefully rubbing their hands together, contemplating rescinding your acceptance. They are nice people who understand that things happen.

Simply notify the other school immediately that you won’t be attending and enjoy Cornell.

Okay, thanks for that reply! I was really scared for a second.
The school I did get accepted to was a major safety anyways, so yeah, thanks for the advice once again
