It is not counting my Michigan Merit Award (obviously) which would be $500.00
It is not counting my Work Study Award which would be $1250.00 for the semester

Now do I have to pay the 2768.61 right away or do I only pay the difference between these awards and that amount.

I’m going to have to say this, but when it comes to Financial Aid and everything financial Michigan really disappoints me. Every time I call the office, its busy. EVERY ****ING TIME! It’s hard to understand the documentation that needs to be filled out and the office rarely answers my e-mails.

I guess they are just used to me, because a few months ago I had to email them nearly every day with some kind of a problem. That is going to start up again very shortly because they are convinced I am a sophomore when I am in fact a junior, UM just hasn’t finished evaluating my credits yet and they will within the next few days, at which point they told me I would be eligible for more stafford loans. We’ll see about that.

Financial aid does not count federal work-study toward your account balance. That is money you earn on your own by obtaining a campus/off-campus job. You just can’t exceed your work-study amount.

Flapm, I suggest you go back into Wolverine Campus finances and then look at account detail. You’ll see an item by item breakdown of the billing, and now an item by item breakdown of the disbursement of your fin aid/scholarships. The balance is the differential and yes it is due today.
Your “invoice” total has nothing to do with work-study. You total FA summary is what shows you the total of all awards and scholarships. Your work-study is usually used for living expenses, etc. throughout the year because it only comes in as you work the hours.
With the Promise money, your fin aid summary will say “pending” meaning it will not be applied to your account until and UNLESS the Mi State Legislature gets around to funding (and keeping) the promise in late Sept/Oct. If they do fund it, as promised, then the money will be released to your student acct., and if you don’t owe anything, the school will issue you a refund for that $500.
Make sense?
Good luck.

My invoice is about $4000 right now, with some awards missing. Checked last year and the awards weren’t listed for another 2 weeks. Basically these awards were the difference, so the invoice would be over. If anyone is worried about late payments they told me they’d charge you the late payment, and then when the awards come to pay of your remaining balance they’d take it back. If anyone is in a situation like that, where missing awards (that are sure to come, not the MME $) are the sole reason for the amount, I wouldn’t worry about the late fees.

i’d call and see. I have a feeling they may do so unless you let them know what is up and why you are not paying. This can/will? inhibit your ability to add/drop classes, register for next semester etc. So i would look into that asap.

kmcrindle, you always seem to be up on this stuff… When I look at the student center front page on WA, it says I owe -0-. But when I click above on the amount due link, it says I owe $1100 or such. I can’t figure out what accounts for the difference. Should I worry about it? In the details of account section it says I have 0 balance.

So I am going to have to pay 200 out of pocket as well as the scholarship money my High School instructed me not to inform the University of. I won’t get these checks until mid-late next week at the earliest, so I’m taking a late fee obviously?

My next question would be how does Michigan deal with their spending money part of the bill? We get app. a grand a semester to live on, how do they actually get this money to us?

Also, I purchased all my books with my own money prior to school, how will I be reimbursed the 550 dollars?
