Is anyone else getting an estimated housing charge on their bill for $5,795? Is this a generic number that they put on everyone's bill or does this represent what dorm i got into?

it's the same for my son. and they have put a charge for the 10 meal plan on there also. I'm sure that is just an estimate of the 'average' room cost. It even says "estimated"

you can't even change the meal plan choice yet (afaik) so I bet the bills that get sent (next week) aren't going to be for actual charges, but rather estimates.

I'm PRAYING for a Hayden LCT or any Rubin room as a dorm assignment for my son. I know that Freshman dorms are the cheapest, so I'm saving for later by doing LCT (hopefully) this year.

i'm glad to see his loans and scholarships all showing!

Did you get anything to do for the Perkins loan yet. We already did the MPN for the Stafford loan

mine 4300. 4300 x 2 = 8600, rubin regular housing cost for the year (not LCT)

doesnt say estimated. was assigned to the dorm about a month or so ago.

I'm still waiting for my perkins loan MPN. I read that instructions would be sent out July/August. About the dorm, you don't think that NYU expects people to pay the estimated charge, wait until we get our actual assignment, then get some sort of refund, do you? That seems like a lot of work. But the bill are coming out soon and the dorm assignments are coming out in late july/aug.

Wing2871x(sorry, odn't know your name), did you get in ED?

im a RD applicant

I think it's about a semester's worth of payments for hayden. Geez, that's expensive....$1500/month for half a bedroom? And the meal plan charge better not be for the semester.

Keep dreaming futurenyustendent. They are only billing you for one-time fees and semester fees. They won't be billing spring charges on your fall bill.

That's $1500/month for half a bedroom in a building facing Washington Square Park. Seems reasonable to me - might even be cheap.

The $5795 is the cost for one semester at Hayden/Goddard/Weinstein now... I think that it's a default price, unless if you're in Explorations or something and already have received your assignment.

And yes, the meal plan is $1700 per semester. That's how it is at a lot of schools, though, judging by those ads on TV that say $3000 for meal plans per year...

I posted this on a different thread:

my brother has a great studio rent controlled apt in the Village that I hope he will sublet to me when my son is ready to move out of the dorms. He loves that apt so much he's willing to pay rent on it now even though he's living with a friend next to the UN building. He can only sublet it 2 out of 4 years and someone has been living there for almost 2 years so he can't sublet again for 2 years. I'm thinking it might be a good apt for a junior. I think his rent is ~800 a month which is a Steal

Or facing another building. It really depends on your room assignment. But again, seems pretty steep. It comes out to $3k per bedroom (studio apt). It doesn't even cost that much in the upper west side. Oh well.

yea, im in explorations and i was assigned a while back. i think thats why i have my exact cost already, or at least one that matches the rates on nyu's website

It's official-er, that number was just a space filler. I checked this morning and my balance went down $3,000 dollars. I was assigned to Rubin LCT!! YAY

Hmm...this is very odd. I got my first choice, the French floor in Hayden. I also put that I would only accept an LCT. However, it's showing up as $5,470 on my bill for Hayden. ??? Isn't that the cost of a regular bedroom? Did they not adjust everyone's bills to include the LCTs?

Maybe there are not LCTs on the French floor. Housing might have decided that you'd rather have a French floor room than an LCT room.

I still have the estimated price in my account. Since it's taking longer for my dorm to appear on the bill, does that mean that I'm being placed in one of my last choices?

just because you applied for LC housing does not mean you will get it. and if you applied for an explorations floor, it's even less likely. although nyu says they try to put LC people in LC rooms, they really don't. half the people who get LC didn't apply for it and half the people who applied for it didn't get it. I applied for LC in Rubin my freshman year and got a regular room.

But wait...I'm confused...I'm pretty sure I read on the Explorations application that if you specifically requested an LCT and that if you didn't get it that they wouldn't place you in an Explorations floor, meaning that I would get deferred to the regular application. Did I read something wrong?

That may be true. I was on the CHOICES floor which is essentially an exploration too. And still they put three girls in a LC room, even though none of them wanted one, and put me in a regular room even though I specifically applied for LC.

Does anyone know what Stern Undg.Reg.& Svcs.Fee is? Is it a one-time fee?
