Accounting and PreMed...

I am considering doing accounting and premed.

I would need to only take O-Chem, and a series of BioChem at my school along with all the accounting course work in order to get done.I will have to give up 2 summers, but I am 100% content with that.

I am transferring to the University of Washington, I will have taken 1 year of English, Math:including Calculus 1, 2, and 3, and Taylor Series, roughly 2 years of Humanities: psych, humanities, flim, women studies, sociology. As well will have 1 year of calc based physics, 1 year of general chemistry, and 1 year of general biology. Finally, I will have the necessary business courses completed: 1 year of basic accounting, management, business law, etc.

Transfer GPA: 3.87

I am considering doing the B.A. in accounting because it gives me a nice fall back if I don't get into medical school.

Just wondering if anyone has done this before, has advice, etc?

And, all the Accounting majors, what was your GPA? How much time did you put into studying?

I am a freshman accounting major. I have a 4.0 but have not taken real accounting classes yet.

From what I hear, an accounting major is extremely rigorous and very time consuming. At my school, a 3.2 is required to graduate with honors in accounting while a 3.5 is required for honors in other business disciplines (this implies accounting is much harder). Accounting is perhaps comparable to engineering in difficulty (although fewer classes taken than engineering perhaps).

Premed accounting would be challenging. However, no one’s to say it’s not doable. An easier plan could be a finance, economics, or other business degree with premed.

However, you do seem to already have many classes under your belt. In that case, you do have a bit of an advantage. With your situation, it looks easier than normal. If you feel confident, I’d go for it. Just know accounting is time consuming.
