What are the best universities to attend to go in the way of accounting? I don't have the 4.4 average GPA needed to get into UCB or USC but maybe SDSU or CSULB? Which are the top 5 schools for accounting in Cali?

What are your grades and stats?

CSUF has good accounting program. I think USC is also known for it. See if you can get some sort of scholarships from USC.

Around a 3.3 GPA for sophomore weighted(had a really bad year, family issues). I took Pre-AP Pre-Calc and got a D, now I’m taking it again this year and have an A. The A would count twice, replacing the D from last year so it should raise the GPA. So far junior year, I got my act together, unweighted 3.83 weighted 4.33(I think). So if I keep this up, I think I can raise the overall GPA. I really wish I could go back in time…

But apart from that, what are the best universities for accounting? I understand that I won’t be able to get into an amazing school, just striving to get into a “decent” one.
Does Cal Poly SLO have accounting?

I heard CSLB is good for accounting. Cal Poly SLO is known for engineering not sure about accounting.

What I’ve heard is that CSU Long Beach, San Diego State, and CSU Fullerton are good. I’d love to go to San Diego, but it’s an 8.5 hour drive from where my parents live and I’m afraid I’ll get home sick(wimp I know lol). I have two cousins that went to San Diego State, one dropped for a local university because she became homesick and the other stuck through and makes $100,000+ a year and he studied accounting as well… I’d love to be as successful as he is. This leads me to believe that a prosperous career really can come from going to SDSU, but if there’s another university in California that’s a little bit better, that’d be great. Any university other than SDSU in California is closer to home, SDSU is as far as can be while in-state.

CSU LB admission rates are on par with SDSU. Is it because of the nearby beach or is it because it’s a good school, just like San Diego?

Have you also looked into private schools? Have you taken the SAT or the ACT test yet? Depending on how well you do on those tests, if you do well or decent enough on those, and providing that you will continue to raise your grades, you may want to take a shot at Chapman University to see if you may qualify for their merit-aid program. Chapman is a highly respectable, private university with small class sizes located in Orange County, and is ranked among the top regional universities in the nation. Keep in mind that Chapman is highly competitive to get in. Majority of their students are on merit scholarships and institutional grants, which means they have a higher caliber student body. They have an excellent business school where you can earn a BS degree in Accounting. Check it out if you’re interested. Best of luck!

Well then you probably should stick to a 2-3 hour radius from your home so that weekend home visits are more manageable.

Are you near San Jose State? I would think that SJSU has good accounting.

What are your SAT or ACT scores?

What’s your budget for college? Have your parents said how much they’ll pay?
