Accounting BS/MS Program at Stern

What do you think are the merits of the BS/MS in Accounting at Stern? The program allows a relatively quick receivement of MS degree. I have to take a summer semester right after graduation for the MS. I originally intended to major in Finance at Stern, as it is the most distinguished major within the school, but I thought the Accounting BS/MS program also sounded pretty attractive. What do you think?

Are you trying to get into accounting? I feel like being an UG at Stern would provide better opportunities. But if that’s what you want to do, I think this is a very good option for you.

If you know you want to go into accounting, why go to Stern? It’s an extremely expensive school and you can save money by going to a cheaper school where the Big 4 recruit. However, if you want to keep your options open and also apply for the prestigious finance jobs on Wall Street, stay at Stern.

receivement?

@ stern, i would go finance. you can then get your MS in 1 year from another school better known for its accounting program and big 4 connections, such as usc

I had the exact same question. I’m an incoming freshman at nyu stern, and just yesterday saw the BS/MS accounting program. I was wondering if the MS would give you a competitive edge against just having a BS in finance when it comes time for job applications. In reality, I know a BS in finance from Stern is considered very prestigious, and if you land a great job in a large firm, you make great money. A BS/MS in accounting must give you many more options, I just don’t know much about the accounting program at Stern and if whether the extra year is worth the investment in regards to increased salary options when graduating. My guess is as good as yours Kaibop

Stern for undergraduate accounting seems like a waste of money. Their ugrad accounting isn’t even ranked in the top 25 by the Public Accounting Report. You can go to IU-Kelley (#6 nationally) OOS for less than half of what NYU costs with their guaranteed $9,000 annual scholarship (3.8 weighted gpa and 30 ACT/1340 SAT). Eight of the top ten ugrad accounting programs are public universities, probably most of which offer combined BS/MS programs, and even five-year BS/MBA programs.
