Accounting Classes Online

Hello all,

I just wanted to add that this is my first time posting here. I was fascinated by the support given by all of you and I just had to ask. Like everyone else, I stumbled across this website as I am having difficulty with school. I live in New York but I am taking classes online where I am majoring in a BS in Accounting from Southern New Hampshire University. I work full-time at weird hours which prevents me from taking classes at a regular school. This is why I chose to take online classes from a "real" school unlike U of Phoenix or Devvry.

ACC 201 and 202 weren't hard but at the same time I wasn't really serious about it. Then came Intermediate Accounting I. I literally don't know anything as I am completely lost. I feel that it is worse for me to major in accounting since I am only taking online classes; pretty much I am teaching myself accounting. I feel as though I need to start ACC 201 again in order for me to fully comprehend anything my Spiceland book is saying. I have looked online for study guides and brief "Accounting for beginners/dummies" booklets but I have yet to come across one that I enjoy reading and fully comprehend.

I have even thought of switching my major to a BS in Computer Information Technology. My experience in Accounting has been so rough for me but I feel that it is even worse as a result of pursuing my degree online.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions/comments/advise as to what I can do to help me comprehend my class?

Any books that you may recommend?

If you don’t get it, then Accounting is not for you.

It’s really as simple as that because it will just get more and more difficult for you.

Switch to something else.

Thanks for the response, SP1212. I’ve seen you respond quite often after searching the accounting threads. I feel as though I didn’t try hard; therefore, I am attempting to “start over” with accounting. I am not one to give up and I read all the horror stories but I love the auditing aspect of accounting. Do you have any books or literature in mind that would help me out the most without being similar to Spiceland for Intermediate Accounting I?

It bothers me to even fathom the idea of quitting and changing majors. Even so, I wouldn’t know where to begin.
