Ok so I am an accounting major and my gpa is 3.00, and I've heard that to get anywhere with an accounting degree I would need a reallly high gpa. But if I do graduate with a low gpa will my degree mean nothing? If that's so then should I consider switching my major. Also, what kind of jobs can I get with an accounting degree? I really don't care about getting a job with the big 4 because Im not that competetive and I heard its stressful plus I know theyll never take me with the kind of gpa I have. Also, this is my gpa and I haven't even finished my lower division yet and I 've been super stressed out so I really need some help here! The only reason I chose accounting as a major is because I didn't have anything else and I wanted a major that would gaurantee me a job and everyone told me accounting is safe.

I kind of chuckle when I hear pleas of help from people who “went into accounting to get a job and end up hating it.” So, yes, do something else. Your situation is like being a bio major who hates the idea of going to medical school, but yet is still moving along because he or she wants to make a lot of money.

Lesson learned: DO NOT pursue a business degree / career if you have no passion / hate the work. Business involves just as much passion and zeal as any other professional occupation.

^ Agree completely. Listen to him.

Switch your major. If your stressing right now, your definitely going to stress out working as an accountant…You shouldn’t listen to other people about deciding YOUR future and just because you think it’s safe doesn’t mean it will be. Do something that interest you…

Just be aware that upper division classes get much more difficult. So unless you have a real change in study habbits, you’re gpa will probably decrease.

But whose to say your gpa will go up if you major in something else? Better to do something that challenges/interests you, then something that doesnt. So screw your gpa.

with that said, there is no “safe” major.
