Hello:)
Okayyy so basically my question is...which major should i choose for UCI if i want to go towards accounting? Business Econ and minoring in Accounting? or Business Administration and minoring in accounting?
I don't really know the difference betweeen Business econ and Business Adm.

oh yeaa and one more! Is it okay to take prereq classes during summer(meaning this summer)? like for example...accounting class. im planning to transfer on fall'10.
so....please help me out!:D

and if you look at the biz econ major, they require you to take more econ courses [UC Irvine : School of Social Sciences : Department of Economics : Undergraduate :: Program :: Major in Business Economics](<a href=“Home | Economics | UCI Social Sciences”>Home | Economics | UCI Social Sciences)

and if you look carefully, they are under two different departments at the school, biz admin in the business dept and biz econ in the economics department. either way, i’m sure you’re going to minor in accounting. i could be wrong, but i think it’s what you prefer to study but i DO know that biz admin is much harder to get into.

There’s a very big difference between the two.
Business admin is pretty much straight-up business (very small entering class at UCI so it will be very difficult to get in).
Business Econ is basically the major most of the UCs give if they don’t have an actual business school (Haas, Paul Merage…) or for students who are more interested in economics.

The funny thing is, the word “business” in BUSINESS economics basically just means accounting. You’ll have to take 1-3 intro accounting courses at first and then you can take the upper-division ones if you are more serious about accounting. It is still possible to get a degree in business econ without going too far down the accounting path, but you still need those1-3 intro acct courses no matter what. Do note that bus econ isn’t strictly accounting (you can still take courses such as corporate finance, banking system, and international trade).

My friend got a business economics degree from UCSB. Somehow the classes he took in buzecon automatically qualified him for the CPA exam. So if you want to be a CPA mroe than managerial, then i guess buzecon is the way to go althought both majors require accounting one way or another.

Biz Admin would be the better choice if you can make it in. You get access to more management classes and your curriculum will be more business based. Biz econ varies from school to school so I would check the curriculum for all the programs you are considering. I believe its “accounting + econ” only at UCLA and UCSB. UCI’s bizecon curriculum has only one basic accounting course and the rest you have to be in the minor to take.
