Accounting information systems audit

I am a second semester junior at Virginia Tech majoring in Accounting Information systems audit. most of the graduates of this program go work for the federal government or some other company in the DC area. Do you guys think this major is as versitile and stable as a normal accounting major, and do you think I will be able to find a job in coastal cities.

Also i read that one must be a CPA do be a "real' auditor, is this true?

thanks for your opinions.

I would think this major would be more versatile than an accounting major because you could get a job in either accounting or IT. Also, I would think you would be able to get into IT Auditing for a Big 4 firm with this degree.

As for being a CPA, I believe that is highly highly recommended if you want to go into an accounting related field.

thanks vector for your reply, my only goal is to land a job in a beach town and make enough money to buy a house, i dont care what my job will be

Sounds like a cool major.
I don't think you'd be at a disadvantage. As for the CPA exam, Maryland requires certain course requirements. Your major would fulfill all the course requirements for the CPA in Maryland except Cost and Tax accounting.
Plan your electives well and talk to your advisors.
